...Trying it in Exploring Divinations.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone. I am writing this thread to figure out the nature of peoples intentions for being on this site. I want to say first that I enjoy being on here and learning new ways of looking at the I Ching. I am farely new at it, and for that, I am impressionable too.

But off of this website, things are different. I find myself seeking out others of like mind, and not getting very far. I honestly and completely love to learn new things. Not just knew subjects, but also things about myself in an introspective sort of way. I have an extreme need for that learning in my life. I believe I always will. Althought I can see beauty in all people, most people are not like that, in that they do not care to search beyond and investigate life. I Ching is just one of many of these avenue's to explore and grow from.

I guess what I am saying is: The reason I joined this site, and even seeked it out, was to find other people that were seeking. And to talk with them about the same subjects that I find myself pondering. There is definitely fulfillment in this. And of course the knowledge and perspectives that are shared on this site are priceless. I do consider though, all experiences to be enightening if viewed in the right light.

I am possibly just bummed out about my current situation. Where I live, people seem to be very open-minded. In Akron, especially where I live, thrives with young, new, alternative thinking people. But even then, I don't find people striving toward betterment. I never force acknowledgement of a subject. But I often times get inwardly frustrated. In some ways I shouldn't, because I am happy to have the experience and relationship that I have with my spiritual side, BUT I would love to share that and grow with other people.

And this is where my initial reason for posting comes in. I in some ways want to meet people from here on this site. And I am wondering if other people feel the same way. I am actually just as curious to know the answer, to actually wanting to meet people.

So I guess I am just saying, did you have the same feelings when you joined this site? To meet people and perhaps "meet" up with people on this site? If so, do you still? Things like that. Because I know it is a noble thing to come on here detached, and help people out without expecting anything more than just what it is. I know the beauty in the internet for it's knowledge sharing qualities.

I am curious, and also possibly a little hungry for deep companionship. Please excuse.

Well said. It speaks for me anyway.

My assessment, so far, is that ships travel same routes, but always manage to diverge to the tributaries of their own origin, and that parts ways with those traveled with. Like salmon, we're joined and separated. Then we're eaten and become birds and bears and raccoons and catfish; but our next generation stands a chance to live, and to join again.

Well, I think it's easy to get discouraged, but the nature of life is to fight to live. Think of that giant battle and race for one sperm out of millions to fight its way through, not only competing with the others, but surviving her body's defenses against foreign invasion, of which a sperm is, quite so.

In sales, they always talk about it as a numbers game. Run enough numbers/people through the mill and some will stick (yuk). That gets into a whole qualitative/quantitative analysis, however. One hit wonders and one trick ponies never appear to be very happy. Not unless they perfect their life picture or story, even if it's in still life form - such as an image of a spawning salmon: beautiful, noble, enduring, ending, beginning.

But in the end, quality is still measured in some way by quantity, by how much of it there is, in order to survive. A bit of 23.6 there, I think. If you can't quite reach the fruit on top, is it really the sweetest if it's never eaten?

a metaphor: High ideals ride in style, common folks still have to bust their asses. It's well for what is high to give to what's low. So, survival fights for what is highest, but doesn't neglect what's lowest.

I'm afraid I swam way off topic, but it seemed a friendly stream.

Not in the way we normally think of it. Maybe inspiration is the sweetest fruit. Maybe a world of potentials has fruit we've yet to taste, or taste them in any combination, or all at once, or maybe its best to go on wondering about it, like the boy. Maybe wonder is the sweetest fruit, that which is out of reach, out of our firm grasp.

Or, for story sake, like God saying "Ok, I'm going to let you see all that I am at once. Sorry to say, though, you won't know a thing about it, as you'll be instantly undone." And I ask, "Well, what use is it to see all God is at once if I become undone? I won't be able to see, or even know about it!" But without eating, I can still know it's there, still be inspired and in awe. It still feeds me, though it can not be eaten in the same way.

edit: AQ, did you compose that image? If so, how long did it take? (just curious)

I did compose it. When I read what you said, images started popping in my head, so I googled some of the things you talked about and put them in MSPaint. Then I drew the sperm and the hexagram in the corner and tweeked some stuff. I was just going with the flow and at first, I was just thinking about the salmon, then, I remembered you talking about the sperm, and thought about how they have the same "swimming stuggle", so I added them. Then I thought about hexagram 3, Difficulty in the beginning (Its gotta be hard to be a sperm or salmon) so I thought I would just add 3 sperm and put the hexagram in the corner.. then I thought about "idea streaming" and how thoughts "flow" and stuff like that... so I put the head in. All took about 45 minutes. I didn't want to edit too much. Wanted it to be quickish.

oh yeah? I like doing this sort of thing. and the little sperms are making me ... well... excited ;) When someone's talking, I get all sorts of images in my mind. I like to manifest them at least a little. Expecially on good topics. (Your good at that) And of course sometimes I make them up completely. (Probably from my subconscious)

Edit: tying hexagrams into the subject is new and fun.

I agree. It's a creative way to give expression to hex and tri images, and I think it can have a different effect or influence on the brain than words do.

Yeah, I may make a series.. not sure. Randomly maybe. I could post them on here. I like to hear what everyone talks about each Hexagram first.. then search inside for images from myself. Where would I post that? Memorizing Threads?

I've posted a few on the Memorizing threads, Rosada started, but not until well into it. I also had a series of 64 images with a brief poem or saying for each image, but the sayings are no longer in my possession, plus some images have been replaced. They were hosted on LiSe's server for quite awhile.

I doubt Hilary would object to starting your own thread to display your images as they arise, however they would need to be hosted somewhere else, like www.photobucket.com or your own web space, as uploading from your hard drive doesn't allow enough personal space on Clarity.

I would like to see the 64 images with poems/sayings. Is this something you could retrieve? I am going to look at memorizing threads more. Is LiSe a name of a member on here?

Yes, LiSe is a long time member here, and has a wonderful translation and commentaries: http://www.yijing.nl

I've asked her for the texts recently, but she's been very busy. I've had other recent requests to resurrect them, so when/if I receive the texts I'll also be looking for a place to display them. Perhaps we can do it on the same thread. Others can contribute as well.

Meng, thanks so much for showing me this site and starting up the Graphic Yi Images. I am just starting to read the yijing.nl and I am really liking it. I am going to create images based on hexagrams when inspired (thanks) and I will post them as I do. Since I am new to the ways of the I Ching. I don't want to get things "wrong" so to speak. I know what I know about the images that form in my mind when I read about hexagrams, but I don't know all the places and books that are available to read about them. I like the idea of having archetypes that emanate from hexagrams and circulate from a central idea. I am currently searching for 1 more hard copy to have at my apartment. I have Wilhelm. I don't want to just get a bunch of them. Also, I am going to look at the memorizing threads and the site you just gave me. I check (and sometimes try to help) on shared readings, and that is a really good collective place for me to learn different peoples hexagrams interpretations. Ultimately I would like to find my own interpretations and feelings on all the hexagrams. And when I read the wilhelm version, I definitely form some. Possibly they will forever change inside my head based on my current situations and life. Maybe that is what it is all about too. But always coming back to that central core archetypes. I am just rambling now. Thanks again for sharing the site and als your images. I hope we can keep on sharing.

All I ask is that you not be intimidated if I rapid fire a few of what I or others already have done, nor by your lack of experience. Please don't worry about getting it wrong. Your greatest assets are your fresh mind and open eyes. I go back and revise my notes and graphics all the time. Doesn't mean I got it wrong the first time, I just looked at it differently the second time. I admire your guts to step up, and stay free in it. These are simply our impressions, nothing written in stone. I know others here also dabble or actually work with graphics. So long as Hilary has no objections, the images thread is a good place to share them. Or to start experimenting with them.

Usually I look back at things I've said or done that were Yi related with quite a bit of dissatisfaction, thinking I got it wrong, or said it poorly, or some such thing. And that's enough to get an inner recording of "it's pointless, don't even bother." So, your youthful creative drive is refreshing to me, encourages the creative wheels to keep turning. So, I thank you too. I'm curious to see your impressions.

ehi, what a link! i'm going to jump in it right now!
thank you :)
Hi, Neegula:

This is the page of LiSe, from which Steve Marshall said:

LiSe Heyboer is one of the few whose interest in the Yijing has inspired her to research the original etymology of the Chinese characters. The site used to be called 'Book of the Moon'. ...

This is an excellent site, and encouraging to any who delve into the Chinese characters themselves. There is a complete translation of the Zhouyi, as well as an ever-expanding selection of essays. Her commentary on her own translation shows great insight, clearly derived from divination experience. Some of the translations are speculative, but based on her study of early graphs.

At: http://www.biroco.com/yijing/links.htm

Steve is also a must.

Yours,

Charly
