hello everyone! this is my first post here, and i am hoping to pick your brains about an i ching question.

when i picked up the i-ching yesterday morning, the first hexagram i read was "parting", 43. it was a very interesting read. this is followed by 44, "meeting", which i also found quite interesting. so the position of the yin lines and the obvious opposite nature of these two hexagrams made me look at the other opposites of the two, 23- "stripping away" and 24- "return". does anyone have any comments on the related nature (or unrelated nature) of these hexagrams, and maybe some info on how one informs the others. am i even correct that they are "opposite" or complimentary to use a better word.

thank you for any information or insight! have a good day...

the hexagrams come in pairs, this much I know! 7 and 8 are a pair, 9 and 10, 11 and 12 and so on including the ones you mentioned. (Interesting that some call 43 "parting" but it is also called other names such as "Resolve" and "determination".....which seem not as much an opposite for 'meeting' ....i do not think the pairs are necessarily opposite in meaning)

have you looked at Hilary's information here on the site? I think she talks about the significance of pairs...i know stephen karcher does in the Total I Ching.
hope others share their thoughts
best,
Bamboo

howdy!

thanks for your reply. i will check out the info you suggested and continue to study. i have not received much feedback on my question (not only here, but on a couple other forums as well), which leads me to believe that my initial impressions are somewhat off the mark. thanks again for your reply! later...
