Then I was puzzling over the original entries on this thread, wondering how it was all this technical talk surfaced while we're on hex.11, Heaven being in communication with Earth. I would have expected their to be more talk about bliss and enlightenment. Now it seems to me it's because 11. Peace is the VERY time for asking technical questions

Think so yes. Once the great existential problem is solved - or rather, once it is discovered that it never existed - what remains are questions such as "what shall we eat today?".
And they are absolutely fascinating. :)

So for me, the 'what goes up must come down' bits at the beginning are just a reminder that what you see right now is not necessarily all you get - there's more. But don't sweat it, cuz overall, despite appearances and a hard row to hoe, it's good news.

"Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe.
Jai guru deva om.

Nothing's gonna change my world."

things appear to change, but underneath it all, all is well.

Hex 11.4

11.4
He flutters down, not boasting of his wealth,
Together with his neighbor,
Guileless and sincere.

The view from here..

11.4
He flutters down, not boasting of his wealth.
Together with his neighbor guileless and sincere.

Higher Conciousnesses - Beings who live in Heaven - walk beside us. They will not tell us of their powers because they see us as being Gods too.

11.5
Giving oneself to a Higher Conciousnes brings good fortune.

11.6 The barriers between conciousnesses fall away. Nothing can stop this.

interesting thoughts.

and interesting that 12.1 follows 11.6, almost as in an image of the seed falling into the ground... the Higher Consciousness entering the world of matter, where it feels opposed or stagnated, and must work from within, like a seed gathering sustenance, before it can flower.
11.6 now seems like a moment of surrender....higher consciousness evolves only by continually surrendering it's lofty plateau to begin again at another level

11-4 For me a beautifull line.

11 the action between the father and mother. From trigram heaven(metal) starts the action for life towards earth.

The 4th line is changing 11 in 34. The nucleur trigram of lake is changing into heaven(from the inside), both metal. And outside the nucleur trigram thunder(wood) is changing to lake again metal. So there is a lot of metal here a lot of contracted emotion and feelings.

11 changing in 34 these are both hexagrams of the "sovereign hexagrams". And this are the ones of the spring, the beginning of the year. In the Chinese clock (http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=3030), 11 is lung and 34 is Large intestine. Also both Metal.

This lines has in this way a connection with the first point of the lung meridian( Zhongfu- Central residence),the beginning of spring, the beginning of life the first cry of the baby when he/she's comming on earth.

(we doing three at a time now? okay...)

Line 4
"One can manage ('P'ien' - flutter -> bustle about) the rhelm without the need to explicitly emphasize one's position and wealth. One can use neighbourliness over money; sincerity and trust over threat."

with/from harmonising (11) comes invigorating (34) - 34 covers the notion of someone in a position of power motivating others but actively as compared to the passive form of 20. Thus we see the push from behind (manager focus) of motivation.

Line 5
"The ruler reinforces peace and fairness by applying rules to his own (great) besides the people (small)."

with/from harmonising (11) comes constructive waiting (05) - a focus on waiting for the riight moment and so enabling some form of control (the water in upper in 05) - the mediation element focuses on learning/teaching the 'right moment' mindset (water as control also reflects teaching, socialisation etc through its boundary nature serving to protect through containment/control )

Line 6
"Between great and small the walls go back up. Peace is over, for by becoming too entrenched a degree of fate enters, and collapse reveals itself."

with/from harmonising comes holding firm (26). Holding firm in a context of mediation suggests a choice has been made and mediation is over. Note that 11,26 form a pair in the binary sequence reflecting the unconditional nature of harmonising vs an example of the particular, conditional form where in 26 the harmonising is WITHIN the collective but in doing so appears 'biased' to the outside - no longer harmonising!

In 26 the collective chooses to 'hold firm' to traditons etc to aid in harmonising (and so a focus on the use of history - but THEIR history different from that of others).

Hi Chris,

I commented on it already but perhaps I wasn't clear enough. There is something wrong with the (traditional) text that you cited for line 3. It's not the Eranos text or any other as far as I know ..

oops -- Line 3
"For one to succeed and experience peace, one must be forever watchful of the ebb and flow of things, by maintaining inner peace and using it to control the outer highs and lows. [keep things fair and be wary]"

It is still 11 to 19 and covers defer to the approach (and even mediating the approach as one mediates the deference - and so be fair but also wary)

that said, the focus on limits being exceeded is covered in the emphasis no evening without unevening, no going without returning. The 'ebb and flow' here can also be seen as limits and so not exceeding them....

IN 11 to 19 the mediating nature of approaching the high introduces variations on the degree of approach - sometimes it is easy and close, other times hard and distant.

OF note in both instances is the fact that line position 3 is controlled by hex 15 - and so a favouring of terms covering modesty, evening out, level out, reduce highs, fill in lows etc.

better? ;-)

Hex 11.5
The sovereign I
Gives his daughter in marriage.
This brings blessing
And supreme good fortune.
---

I wasn't intending for us to take on the last three lines of Hex.11 together, I just commented on all of them yesterday because I was seeing a pattern. Interesting, this morning I couldn't dial up, some sort of Stagnation with my computer! So meaning to or not I guess I did fast forward into the next hexagram/level of consciousness.
Anyway, back to the hexagram 11.5 and giving the "daughter" to a trusted protector: I am going to be going out of town Wednesday and may not be near a computer. Chris, as you seem to be able to be here in the mornings would you be able to take on the responcibility of posting the line for the day for the next hexagram? Otherwise who knows how long we'll be stuck on Stagnation!

The wall falls back into the moat.
Use no army now.
Make your commands known within your own town.
Perseverance brings humiliation.

What Wilhelm says about this line could be taken from the morning's editorials on Bushco's failures in Iraq and the upcoming elections, "The hour of doom is at hand. When matters have come to this pass, we should submit to fate and not try to stave it off by violent resistance. The one recourse left us is to hold our own within our intimate circle. Should we persevere in trying to resist rhe evil in the natural way, our collapse would only be more complete, and humiliation would be the result."
