Method questions and the Yijing

I have been trying to use the Yi to extend my understanding of the nature of the way we move through the changes in life.

Then I realised I had slipped into seeing the Yijing (King Wen sequence) as an ?ideal path? so to speak ? Life mapped out, but from which we tend to deviate by our actions or those of others.

This thought struck whilst I have been trying to understand the significance and meaning of the nuclear hexagrams.

So I thought to ask a few questions?

Does the Yijing?s structure mirror dynamic patterns of human change. That is does its whole structure mirror the path pattern through life and can it be looked at as a whole model?

Hx.54 ? Events which happen outside of ones control ? Fate / Karma happens too!

Is it possible to extend ones understanding of a ?classical? reading of Hx; moving lines and resulting hexagrams etc by using ?innovative? methodology?

Hx.14.1.2.3.4.5.6 > 8 !!! ?Union of people depends on the emergence of a significant power? (Karcher)? Leading to Union! Well I guess that is a yes

Does the fan yao / cross line omen show a relevant energy movement acting in the time of an oracle?

Hx.63 After Completion; Already Crossing. For me this hexagram pertains to connection to the ?other side? or our spirit nature and the larger connection. Great care is needed here though. But I wonder if there isn?t just a little Yi humour in the crossing comment as I am just about to map out Stephens last posts to get a clearer grasp of his ideas of cross line omens.

Anyone got any thoughts or comments on these readings / ideas?

yes. The BINARY sequence of the I Ching reflects a TEMPLATE of a 'small world' network and as such reflects our brains that do the same and as such have adapted to the Universe that reflects this pattern. IOW our neurology has developed and in doing so has internalised the properties of 'out there'. These networks develop from the dichotomy of differentiating (and so stand-alone, 'random', self-contained) / integrating (all is linked together) that is then applied to itself - IOW recursively.

The TEMPLATE reflects a dynamic from yin to yang, from egalitarian to aristocratic. This dimension is useful but also an illusion in that the recursion used in deriving the dimension means we can drill down to find the same dimension reflected in all parts. Thus in the IC we have at the level of 64 hexagrams, 8 octets each reflecting the whole encoded into the parts.

Thus the binary sequence from 000000 to 111111 can be mapped to an ordering of octets thus:

(mountain based hexagrams)
(water based hexagrams)
(wind based hexagrams)
(thunder based hexagrams)
(fire based hexagrams)
(lake based hexagrams)
(heaven based hexagrams)

The WHOLE order is a small world network AS IS EACH OCTET - wheels within wheels. the development path is given in this diagram:

FROM the egalitarian/yin/integrated comes an idea/charismatic person/whatever. This 'exaggeration' attracts the rest in the form of 'wanting to be like X' or 'opposing X strongly'. The more associations with X so the more it become a 'universal'. The peak of an aristocratic development is where a phase transition can occur 'up' or 'down' (collapse) but the dynamic means some universals are 'true' and fit any collective and so their discovery passes from collective to collective. That process ensures that OVERALL, despite the collapses, we fall onto the base set of universals and so overall a yang bias develops. (and so stock markets recover and go on to do better in the long term)

With the collapses come the 'I dont want to be on that ride again' and so some will maintain their current positions by balancing things rather than exploiting things. In the above diagram imagine lines developing from the base of the collapses running in parallel with the base egalitarian line. Thus each octet above reflects development from particular positions that will try and stay in the octet rather than climb 'higher' - personalities do this in that they 'fit' an octet, thus as one can move along the octets from yin to yang so one can also develop the octet and no more - become specialist.

If you read my posts to this list on such concepts as 'historical materialism - is it fact?' you will find references re small world etc - and from that focus on IDM to give the details re the ordering of the dimension - how those patterns emerge.

FROM the basic process of recursion of yin/yang comes the use of the process as a template to understand hexagram relationships - thus the binary sequence reflects the relationships of hex 01 characteristics to hex 02, the traditional of hex 01 to hex 64. -- and there are LOTS more.

Note that the small world dynamic uses hexagram 64 as a source of development, yin to yang and it reflects 'mixing' as compared to 01 that reflects purity (aristocratic focus).

The point here is that, due to the recursion so each moment reflects the expression of the WHOLE IC - the LOCAL focus is on finding the 'best fit' hexagram of that expression. Thus ANY method will derive 'meaning' since all hexagrams are applicable, the focus is on finding that 'best fit' and so any method that seems to achieve that.
