I ask the iching, which has been of tremendous help in guiding me through a very tricky situation in the last year, weather I should let go of this particular person in my life.

I received 10.5.6>54

I'm familiar with both hexagrams, but I'm confused as to weather the lines offer any specific advice other than 'just look back and be judge'..

so I asked the iching to clarify by asking what could the short term outlook be if I stick with things as they are and got 54.2.3 not exactly promising lines, but changing to 14?? Great possession? How does that fit in??

and what would be the long term outlook, based on present and got 11.1.2>15

I don't know whether I just confused myself more by asking three times, although I feel there is a thread running through these results..I'm just struggling to see it objectively and was hoping for a second opinion.

Many thanks!

Very interesting. 10 is not just about treading on the tail of the tiger, but it is the picture of a robust man walking in front of a weak woman. She falls behind. It also means courtesy or propriety. The meekness gains strength from the strong. 54, however, is the marriage of the younger sister before the older, which is socially improper. It is also the eldest son above the youngest daughter and joy and delight. The union of a younger woman with an older man based on passion and lust alone is improper. 10 means that there are many troubles about and to resolve them through waiting and dealing with things meekly. Do not take any initiatives. The moving 5-6 are both good and bad. Learn and make sure you have the wherewithal to do what you have to do. I see 54 as a warning of what will happen if you don't handle the situation properly. In other words, do not do anything solely for the sake of pleasure or do anything that violates social conventions. If you do improper things, you will encounter misfortune. So, for the moment, I think you ought to refrain from dropping a friend. Again, in the second question, you get 54, which tells you not to do anything that is socially improper, you reap as you sow and get a great harvest.

Thank you icastes for taking the time to answer me. I have been away from my computer for a few days so I just had time to read your post properly.

Just one thing I wanted to ask, does 'the woman falls behind' mean that the woman should follow meekly or that the woman would fall behind if she didnt? and also, can you tell me a bit more about propriety and courtesy? that sounds really interesting.

I think your interpretation is really spot on about the situation and the people involved. It very much resonates with my deeper understanding of how things are evolving (when I'm able to look at it clearly).

She falls behind because basically she is smaller and weaker than he is. Thus, she is like someone treading on the tail of the tiger, but it bites not. The hexagram also means courtesy or propriety. Thus, you are urged to handle the situation gently.

Thanks icastes.

I suppose in a situation where we are supposedly in a weaker position the most sensible option is the gentle one. In a similar reading on the subject I recall having 62 as an answer, so guess 'stay small' is the best attitude for me to take.
Which I guess wouldn't be so hard if my feelings toward the person involved weren't so overwhelming!
thanks again :)
