About Mr. X
There is a man I see in setting upon which it would be inappropriate for him to ask me out, but not for me to show interest in him. We have formed a friendship and have spoken about personal matters, like our love life or lack of it, as well as everyday things. He is so nice, polite, and thoughtful.

I asked "should I give X my business card?"

I didn't understand the answer because it could be a very harmless gesture, I am an artist and people buy art.

So then I asked "Should I talk to X about my art?" which give a more appropriate opportunity to give my business card.

I am confused at what appears to be the I-Ching's advice not to. Any thoughts?

"should I give X my business card?"

Well yeah, you have him in an situation that is like shooting fish in a barrel, but you don't want fish, you want water to drink! Dropping him a fishing line will not draw water from the well, it's the wrong tool for the job. "Cracked jug" just indicates the inappropriateness of directly seeking water here, as you previously indicated.

Maybe have a mutual friend or something invite you both into a setting where getting to know each other in the way you would like is more appropriate.

Thank you for replying, we don't have any mutual friends. It's makes the I-Ching's answer perplexing.
