Hexagram 50.3 was the answer. I asked should I quit my job now that my dad has bladder cancer. I just recently made peace with my job. It is stressful and about 2,000 miles away from my family. But I decided to stay the course after having a meltdown last week. Then my mom calls me tonight and tells me that my dad has bladder cancer. I have always put family first. If these are his last days, I don't want to spend them on the other side of the country. Please share your thoughts with me.

sympathize so much with you. However, there are two separeted sides mustbe cleared:
1. in my understanding, conclusion about cancer is made by doctor and hospital.
2. hex 50 changes line 3 DOES NOT means cancer.
regards.

Hi unique cookie,

"Should I quit my job now that my dad has bladder cancer?"
50.3 to 64 ~ Your dad is unable to 'carry-on' ~ but, for how long?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad ~ it seems that you've been through a lot recently ~ I hope you are taking good care of yourself.

Timing seems to be an element here ~ depending on the context, line 3 can suggest that your dad has three (days, weeks, months or years) left to live? Did your mom relay your dad's prognosis to you?

Just going by your toss, I read 64 (Not Yet Across) as indicating that it's not time to quit your job, yet...

Best wishes for your dad, yourself and your family.

2 doctors have comfirmed he has cancer. I was not asking if he has cancer. I was asking if I should quit my job to move back home to be with him in case this cancer causes his end. If I keep this job, I am stuck here until April. Then, I would only be home on Sundays. I want to spend as much time with him as I can if it's his time.

Hi unique cookie,

Should I quit my job now that my dad has bladder cancer? 50.3 > 64

The handle of the vessel is altered and limits one's abilities. The fat of the pheasant is not eaten.
Once rain falls, regret is gone. In the end: lucky.

If the answer refers to your dad, then he will be impeded by this disease, but he'll still make it (I hope so! and in most cases bladder cancer is curable). He may have to alter his diet. Rain will fall, so he will regain bladder function. And at the end of all this hardship it will all be well. 64, I don't believe his time to go across has come yet.

If the answer refers to your job, you will be impeded by his disease. In your case the fat of the pheasant would be your job, i.e. you have a job but you're thinking of leaving it uneaten. 64 - not going across, not yet, so overall quitting your job doesn't sound like a good idea right now.

unique cookie,
I would consider this is saying,
'No, don't quit your job because your help would not be wanted/appreciated (the pheasant you cooked uneaten) by them (dad?).'

(I know, this sounds counter-intuitive:
As their child, you naturally want to do anything you can to help them. But if dad doesn't really want you to be there your 'help' could feel as an 'intrusion')

Ask them Both before you make such a unilateral decision. Then please post here what they said.

So true Moss Elk. He is not even taking my calls today. So I'm going to take it week by week, day by day, one foot in front of the other. My mother alluded to all you say. I dont think my help is needed nor wanted.

Can you please update the outcome? thank you
At the time you asked this question, dad was fine. I moved on from this job after 2 years. Every weekend I saw him. I traveled home during his treatment. I did not quit my job. Dad recovered from Bladder Cancer. But he had to have his bladder removed and wear an external bag. I did resent being away from my family full time but I grew to be good at my job. I was even promoted.

Hey unique cookie, how is your father doing?
At the time you asked the question, he had passed away of another illness. 😢 However, he fully recovered from bladder cancer. I did not quit my job at the time but traveled home each weekend.
