Hallo there

I've influenced my Mom with the i ching talking about it so much that she wanted to ask a question

She's retiring and she's been ahead of an office area for so many years she feels it her own. The big boss chose the person that will replace her - a 40years old inexperienced guy (inexperienced in that area as he's always worked in another area). So she'll be working for another 6 months to pass everything on to this guy.

She's a bit worried and she would like to know if this is the right guy to replace her.

My reading is that
if he is well trained
if everyone understands he's the new area leader (and the big boss has to make that clear too)
if he treats his area people in a good way

then things will be fine, with some initial difficulties.

But then I thought that it's not actually my Mom's business to care about who would replace her.. Is Yi saying that as well?

The Forest of Changes verse is quite negative on this. I am trying to tune both my translation and the contents (not changing things, just nuancing them). Can you tell me if this verse seems appropriate to the situation or not and if so, why:

P. S. Using the Nanjing method, none of the changing lines are read here, just the judgement for hexagram 7.

I don't know what the Forest of Changes is and what the Nanjing method is.

From your words it looks like this person is not right for the job as if he were a cow and the job were a job for boars ..

Or it could mean that this type is different from my Mom, he has different views and will do everything differently which would be fine, no problem with that
My Mom just would like to know if the office she has looked after for 40 years will be left in good hands.

The Jiao Shi Yi Lin (Forest of the Yi, or Forest of Changes) is a Han Dynasty book of 4,096 verses. Each verse represents a combination of two hexagrams (thus 4,096, 64 X 64).

It does sound like a mismatch in the making, so I'm interested in getting a progress report from you in a month or so when your Mom has a better idea about her potential replacement. He may be a boar in a cow job or a cow in a boar job, but that can only be determined by examining the actual circumstances.

I think the casting is excellent. Hexagram 7 suggests organizational discipline, and 3 recruitment, "Rallying" in Hatcher's. She has six months to shape this guy up, and I expect the area over which she has had responsibility to continue to function well.

Everything seems to go well with the "new guy"

this guy is still in charge of the office but most people don’t like him and have told my Mom she is much missed. She was quite harsh but good hearted while he mostly keeps his temper but acts beneath the water.
