Hello everyone!

I came here for help in regard to my dog :'( The long story short, he is an old border colie. And for some time now he is going backwards. Would like to know if there is anything I can do for him. As with many dogs I have had before. He is showing symptoms of old age. Wobbly on the legs, losing weight, turning blind, sleeps more. And now is starting to reject food.

Tell me something about Shep.

13.2.5 14

I read somewhere that 13 is not a good hexagram related to health. As for the lines, I can't understand how this fits with a dog.

What can we do to help him.

22.1.2.3 4

22 grace? This sounds superficial to me.
.1 One is trusted to succeed without help.
.2 One goes with their entourage, who may be useful.
.3 One does not want to finish too fast.

This is very cryptic for me. How can 22 relate to help? I guess I am 4 now as I don't know what to do. Line 1 could mean we both trust the process of "dying". However 3, sounds like we don't want him to leave so soon, yet.

Tell me what is wrong with him.
17.2.6 13

This one is way beyond me. I know 17 has to do about attraction/following. But I have no idea how this applies to my dog. :(

Again, 13, not a good hexagram for health. 4 Losing one's bitterness, subject mounted on the city wall, but he does not proceed to make the attack he contemplates. This one way beyond me, particularly with 22. :eek:uch:

Thank you :'( :'(

Hi

I was looking at 22.1.2.3, my take on that

I believe this is advice on making him as comfortable as possible, grooming, bathing, walking, spending time, line 1 says one leaves the carriage and walks, line 2 is describing seniors or being together as the beard is with the chin, so this could be spending time, line 3 i think is where I am getting the pampering side of things.

What has the vet said? I am familiar with border collies being from
Australia and thats what happens as they get older. I once knew one that was completely blind and deaf with no hair, but it still would eat but every dog is different i guess.
Thats what I getting from 22,

I wish you the best,

Steve

Hello Steve!

Thank you so much for your input. Glad to know that what I am doing right now, coincides what 22 mentioned. Interesting to also find out how 22 and its lines fit and apply to the situation. Makes sense now. Although I always thought that 22 was considered as a superficial hexagram. Not one that relates to the well being of a person or animal. Unless external help, or, comfort, such as; grooming, bathing, etc from exterior eventually settles and warms the heart. As long my dog is as comfortable as possible ofcource.

The vets are shits here unfortunately. Luckily we had a retired veterinarian look at him a couple of weeks ago... and it simply came down to old age.

Any input for the other hexagram? Anybody?

Thanks again Steve! (border colies are the best)

Hi

Your dog is dying but before that, he is ashamed of losing his faculties and succumbing to old age. I think that animals generally have a much healthier attitude to the life cycle, but specially working dogs can find it very difficult when they can no longer do what they were able to do before. It reminds me of my grandfather, towards the end of his life, he felt so dejected and ashamed that he wasn't able to walk properly. It must feel dis-empowering and scary.

You've received 13.5 twice which tells me that all you need to do is be there for your dog now. When my mum's dog was sick (she died a year later) I used to lie on her bed with her and hug her and we'd just lie there together like that. I think she found some comfort in that. You will know what your dog would appreciate, but just do things for him that let him know you care about him and that is OK and acceptable just the way he is.

I am so sorry for this sad time for you and your dog.

My response has nothing to do with your readings, for which folks much more compentent than I have responded -- just based on experience having had animals for over half a century...

How old is your border? Aside from aging symptoms, has the vet identified any underlying conditions (kidneys, heart, other?)?

I suppose you've fed your dog good quality kibbles most of his life. At this point, if that doesn't inspire him, some carefully balanced homemade food might get him eating and make him happy: boil white meat chicken or turkey (no skin) with some vegetables (carrots, string beans -- NO potatoes), and some white rice -- just simmered long and slow in water, just a tad of salt.

Another thing that's helped my elderly animals whose brain functions were starting to be impaired (and their ego with it) is Novifit (by Virbac). See here: http://www.virbacvet.com/products/detail/novifit-novisame-tablets/behavioral-health

None of this is a cure to anything of course, but it can make your dog more comfortable and happier while you provide gobs of love and TLC and make sure he isn't suffering (or hiding that from you, as animals are wont to do).

Tender thoughts...

Very sorry to hear about your dog's bad health.

13.2 probably means it's a genetic problem - not only coming from his 'family'/breed, but also of all dogs (13.5). So, a common dog illness?
And 14 here would probably mean he's got it to a large degree...

What can we do to help him.
22.1.2.3 4

I'll echo the other posters. You can only help him superficially, not essentially.
He needs to walk, and be groomed.
He also needs some medicines - painkillers? sedatives? (22.3)

Tell me what is wrong with him.
17.2.6 13

He has a specific health problem whereby "something small" is destroying him.
Sorry no idea what this could be as I don't know anything about dogs.
This "small thing" got increasingly "tied up" with him and it now leads him along its path (17.6).
13 perhaps here means that it's now obvious outwardly.

13.4.5 22

13.4, climbs on a wall but can't attack - vet's table? vet can't do anything?
13.5, meeting with his similars, not sure what it means here
22, not much can be done, other than superficial things.

Hello precision grace !

Thank you so much for you kind input and reply to the hexagrams. As a checklist about everything what you said; I can pretty much check off everything you have told me. (He loves his chicken!) As for the novafit, i'll keep that noted in my head. But as I am writing this message. His situation has deteriorated. Refuses everything we give him to eat. Only drinks. Impossible for him to stand up. Long story short, the end is nearing after 13 and a half years. *wipes tear

Hello diamanda! Thank you to for your reply. He is my feed back.

I doubt... 90% sure it's genetically related. He came from a healthy, typical farm breed. Was born and raised on a farm to. There is strong pedigree in him. Just as an idea, could pollution maybe fit somewhere in these hexagrams? Like water? (thinking laterally here) Although 13 does relate to company... hmm

As for 22.3. He isn't on any sedatives, plus, he hasn't shown and signs of pain. Doubt somehow that wouldn't help even if I did.

Interesting, I am curious to know where this "something small" comes from. Fleas? Ticks? Worms? Keep in mind this is the country side! Could 17 relate to his as parasitic? Could 17 also relate to something internally inside of him?

He can't get up! Since the past 3 days it's just impossible for him to stand up. And for about a year his balance/walking has deteriorated.

Thank you everyone, he's hanging in :bag:
