:confused:Hello all. I'm new at this fantastic forum and just starting my studies on I Ching. I am fascinated. I hope you can give me some help to comprehend the reply.
I asked the Yi: "What's the meaning of my attachment to the material world?". In other words, I'd like to know why I do have in mind this idea that I'll only be fully happy once I regain my financial situation (a good and recognized job, salary etc), lost in 2001. I need to know why I am a compulsive buyer. This and other symptoms were diagnosed as bipolar disorder and I am under treatment, but I believe there might be a meaning the fact that I have been born with this disease.
The reply was 61.3.4. I am trying to comprehend it for a couple of days, without success.

Thanks so much.
Mary

This reply goes to Meng, who was so kind to answer a question I posted in the wrong forum.

Hi, Mary. Yup, Hilary will probably move this to that section.

First, I'm not making a physical health diagnosis from this reading, ok? That said, it does show that you go up and down according to certain stimuli. That is a conditioning, most likely, not something you were born with. Therefore there's a chance that the learned responses may be relearned or re-channeled. The trouble is: the part of you which should take the lead wanders off, following moods (line 4).
This changes to hexagram 1, which is full of great potential. Its potential relies on your ability to endure, to not tire in your efforts. This is the means that can return your sense of direction, purpose and self esteem, though it may not look the same exactly. Our wealth shifts along with our values.

Thanks for your reply Meng!

From what I learned about bipolar disease both from my doctors and my personal researches, it is indeed something that one partially inherits and partially is born with the incapacity to recapt some kinds of neurotransmissors. We go up (upper than acceptable) and down (idem), because of this oscilation. Unfortunately it is not conditioning or channeling. We have to take medicines.

I have the idea (perhaps wrong) that this may be something brought from other lives or some kind of karma. As to this issue I am not pragmatic or evolutionist. I identify myself with Allan Kardec's and Buddhist comprehension. Being so, I would like to get rid of this wrong materialist value. This is related to what I was asking the Yi.
Honestly, I am worried that if I do not change my values completely I may be going through the wrong path.
Kind regards.
Mary.

Hi Mary,

Well, I'm no MD, but I have a learned a little about human nature over the years. One thing I've learned is that in order to make a necessary change, we must believe that the change is possible. There are obviously features we inherit, and things such as bi-polar or alcoholism can be a result of such inheritance, but we have enormous potential to reroute much of our wiring, and can even create entirely new circuits. And even though there are traits that are indeed hardwired into us, we can find creative ways to re-channel and refine those traits, so that they become creative assets, rather than destructive disabilities. This is an important aspect of hex. 1. I'm not just making this up ;).

Yeah, this belief that changes can happen is my main belief in life. Thanks for reminding me of that because sometimes one can forget. However, every response I receive from the Yi tells me to be humble, modest and so on. I am very much assured I am a humble person when it comes to treat other people and that I have very positive values. What I am intrigued is with what says Hex.61. My question was: what's the meaning of this will that I have that makes me want more wealth than I have?" I must say that I feel somewhat guilty for being like this.
Additionally:
--Inner truth - do you believe it's the wealth? Or what I really am?
--Pigs and Fishes (I am translating it so words may be unprecise) - would those be me?
--Line 3 - what's your opinion on this?
--Line 4 - do you really think it is related to the moods? I saw it as a tip to follow, but could not comprehend which. Perhaps it says that I would better follow my own instincts like a free horse i/o using proselytism.
Thanks!!
Mary F

But a guilty feeling keeps on hammering my mind that

How about going your own way line 4 hex 61.
Line three hex 61 your centre of gravity depends on others .

I think that the problem is emdemic in lots of other people.Do
not depend on others or be like the rest if it causes you to lose your
independance.Hope this makes sense.

Thanks a lot.
I have difficulties to comprehend what does the Yi mean when indicates that I depend on others and should avoid proselytism.
What would be the tip besides the one indicated on 61.4 because that I already do. I feel somewhat lost.

I see the need for you to be careful in all that you do.This i sense .In employment you must be careful but ensure its the right job, so you do not become bored, and then not put the required effort and endurance in.I do feel that there is a job for you in the future that will be right for you.

Perhaps it does. Most of our power comes from self empowerment.

However, every response I receive from the Yi tells me to be humble, modest and so on. I am very much assured I am a humble person when it comes to treat other people and that I have very positive values.

Humble, schmumble. Just relax with who you are. The IC doesn't require more than that. Only when you're relaxed can you see clearly, to change what you wish to change. Otherwise we jump up to defend our possibly outdated values.

61 isn't a set of rules, except for one: hold your judgment, and in this case, self judgment. Don't be so quick to condemn yourself. And the mindset is such that you can communicate in a purely intuitive way, as with a pig or fish. That's not a degrading thing. It's a gift.

MRMORROW, thank you so much!!! - I would like to better comprehend your interpretation regarding the job issue. I tell you that I am not happy with this job I have, although it's a very reasonable job, but very far from home, a little bureaucratic and earnings could be better. I am really bored. But at which point of the Hexagram do you see an indication of a better job?
Cheers!

Bruce, thanks a lot.
I am progressively being more able to relax more and more as years pass, but not enough relaxing, maybe not enough years, I know :))
I got your point. As they say here in my country: "it's all matter of keeping a quiet mind, erect spine and peaceful heart". I always try to remember that.
All the best.

Your problem sounds like it is related to depression(line 61.3) as well as boredom. What do you do with all the stuff that you compulsively buy, just throw it in a cupboard I suppose?

Hex 1 suggests that you have a lot of energy, in your case nervous energy , that when it finds no proper outlet leads very quickly to boredom, selfish behaviour and then into a depressive state where all you can think of is your own needs and wants to the exclusion of all else, hoping to find sensual pleasure in the rubbish that you buy and of course all you find is emptiness, so the cycle, as the Moon suggests(line 61.4), just repeats again and again(going astray repeatedly). Basically your whole life is boring to you and you keep trying to find alternative outlets but Hex 1 is all about fire and fire exhausts its interest in everything very rapidly, just like here, your star is burning very fast but can you stop it going out?

Thanks a lot Willowfox.
I believe you are very close to the truth. I am depressed at the moment.
But I'll have to think of what you said and reorder thoughts and feelings before commenting.
