I've been working a job I like for a week now, but the circumstances surrounding it are nerve wracking. The job is an in home aide for the elderly, where sometimes I take them to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, laundromat, church, lunch etc in my vehicle.i have several client's a day and there is a lot of driving involved. I live in a Northern climate and driving in snowstorms and icy roads has suddenly become very scary for me. Also my car isn't the newest and it's my only lifeline. I don't have anyone to call if something happens, and some of my clients are far away and i have to be to their home in the early morning, before roads are cleared. I like working for these people and I like the fact that I am out and about, some freedom I have been seeking for a long time.I asked Yi "what is the best decision to make about my new job?" Because I am strongly considering quitting, I feel strongly in my heart that I should quit before anyone pays negative consequences for my decision to stay with the job against my own intuition. I don't know if this is my fear speaking or my intuition instructing me. Answer 52.3 stilling 23 stripping away. Wow. Is it saying knock it off, you're overreacting, it's time to get rid of your fear? Or equally meaningful, do what will calm you (quit), your stress will hurt you, strip away this job? Or....

It sounds like the new job has brought you to the limit of your fears. At the edges there is always an opportunity for greater awareness. You asked :what is the best decision to make about my new job?
The Yi responded asking you to look within and offered 52.3 'the acrid smoke that smothers the heart' as a picture of what is happening here and poses a question of what is masking what you really want. The overall picture is to strip away the old ideas that are harming you right now.

Good Luck

52.3 - 23. Limitation leading to Collapse. You are trying to smother your fears, this is not a good long term strategy.

Icy roads and no one to call in case of an emergency? That is crazy! Your concerns are definitely valid and I suspect you just aren't sure how to negotiate with your employers. Tell your employer "We shouldn't accept early morning appointments. it's not safe for us to take clients out before the roads get cleared." (saying "us" rather than "me" reminds them they are responsible too. And using the word "safe"' always gets attention.) And why don't you have a back up person to call? That is definitely a requirement.

Just thought I'd post my gratitude for the responses and some results. As rosada said, I realized I wasn't sure how to negotiate with my employers, so I went with my standard-vulnerability and honesty. They agreed immediately! They first gave me clients that are within a few miles of my house, and only clients who are homebound-no driving them around. Then, later that day, they offered me the most lovely situation, working with a homebound client, 12hour overnight shifts x 5 a week. Great pay, lots of hours and a chance to develop a closer relationship with one client, rather than running all over the place! I'm ecstatic!
