Hi, just stumpled over a book from november 2019 by Edward L. Shaughnessy. It seems to be a bit interesting out of what Amazon briefly writes: "............. hese Western scholars to the field of Chinese paleography, and especially to study of oracle-bone inscriptions, bronze and stone inscriptions, and manuscripts written on bamboo and silk. Each of these topics is provided with a comprehensive narrative history of studies by Western scholars, as well a ................." (Amazon link)

Do anyone here seen any reviews given on this book (Chinese Annals in the Western Observatory: An Outline of Western Studies of Chinese Unearthed Documents Nov. 18, 2019) ?

Finding the EPUP reader I finally found it is kind of a list of researchers and their works described concerning bronze, stone and boneinscriptions ??? Am I right ? If so I think no review is needed for me personally......
But I also saw that the book serves good for further studies (maybe for scholars above my level so far...)

Hi, Svenrus:

I've found this note in Shaughnessy's page at Academia.edu
This is a translation of 西觀漢記:西方漢學出土文獻研究概要(上海:上海古籍出版社, 2018). As the subtitle suggests, it provides an overview of Western studies of oracle-bone and bronze inscriptions, and bamboo and silk manuscripts. Follow this link: https://www.degruyter.com/viewbooktoc/product/506783 ("Content" of the left column).

I couldn't access degruyter.com but maybe from your country...

All the best,

Charly

P.D.: Crossed with Barbara's post.

Hi Charly,

Normally You can download papers from academia.edu in PDF format but this one has to be read with EPUP reader, in my opinion a primitif variant of Words. I got the EPUP reader and after looking at the book in display there I found that Shaughnessy's book is more a reference to the history behind the excavations of these bones, bronzes..... etc. of course with some brief examples of those glyphs and cracks.

But anyway, thanks for reply.

PS: I maybe should add that my impression is that the book is for scholars with a deeper knowhow on the topic than mine.
But at first hand I thought it was a collection of translations
