Hello;
As you all know "16 method" that reproduces the ratios of the yarrow stalks was first introduced by Larry Schoenholtz in 1975 in his groundbreaking book"New directions in the I Ching-The Yellow River legacy".The method was later popularized by Stephen Karcher without proper acknowledgement of the source.In his book,Shoenholtz describes the process that led to his devising of the procedure,following leads from Wilhelm"s Eranos conference and a Martin Gardner's article on the I ching.He called it "the lazy man's method"since it condenses the twenty minute yarrow stalks operation into one minute.He also goes on to say that as long as the ratio is maintained in the coloring,any multiple of 16 will do.Furthermore,it will be better mixing of the beads.(i use 64 little stones)
Anyway,yesterday, out of boredom,I googled I Chin yarrow stalks divination an was obviously directed to the Wiki page.when I arrived at the last section this what I found:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Ching_divination#Probability_analysis_of_I_Ching_divination
You can imagine my surprise....I was literally shocked and run to order the book which you guys in the UK can find very easily.
What is you opinion ,folks?

Hola Hilary'
Thank you for the link.The book looks even more interesting now.My first interest was ,of course,the new ratio of 38 as opposed to the 16 method but there seems to be more than that in the book.Can't wait to read it.

Hola Hilary and Luis;
It's been a while since I received my copy and started using/testing this new ratio proposed in the book.The basis for it sounded reasonable enough to me so I put together a set and started using it in my daily (or so)castings.So far I find it to be extremely accurate.By accurate what I mean is I don't really have to squeeze the meaning out of the answer or advised received-it is already there crystal clear and that is very impressive to me.I was using the 16 method up till now and many times the answers were not really in target-I really had to labour at fitting them into the inquiry sometimes.I don't really want to get into the"the-book-tells-you-what-you-really-need at-the time"sort of approach.Either the answer is there or not and with this particular ratio it is there almost 100% of the times.Have any of you tried or tested this new ratio?

Hola Sergio,

How interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience with the method. I haven't tried it myself but will give it a go. Very intrigued now...

BTW, I've been corresponding with Ed Hacker and one of the subjects is the proposed milfoil method I posted last year. Ed actually calculated the probabilities of obtaining a moving line for each of the hexagram's positions. Very cool and insightful. I will add his findings as an addendum to my article.
