I asked the Yi about a month a ago "What should I do with my life?" It replied: 53.6

I interpreted this answer as meaning that there's nothing to "do" in life in a material sense that will bring fulfillment. At the time I felt it was telling me to return to a less worldly, more spiritual life. Something I miss a great deal. Several years ago, I spent nearly three years in relative seclusion apprenticing with a dao yin master. When I returned to the "regular" world, it took a couple years to adjust. Eventually I finished college, got married and got a job.

Well in the last few months, I lost that job, my divorce is pending, and my savings is nearly gone. I've got about a months living expenses left with no real job prospects in sight. The job market is insanely competitive where I live. And finding a job has proved to be a challenge. I've been working to add new skills through volunteer work. I've considered graduate school, but I fear taking on additional student loan debt and nothing holds my interest.

So tonight, whilst feeling quite low, I asked this question again and it replied 52.6

At first it seemed a similar answer to the first: an image of spiritual accomplishment and peacefulness. Irritated at what seemed to be unrealistic advice, I asked "Well how on earth do I make a living?" And the Yi replied: 55.2.3.5.6

After some reflection I wondered if perhaps the Yi side stepped my first question when it came back with 52.6, and was saying instead that, at least for tonight, I should not attempt to figure it all out.

As for the second question, I've considered that it might mean 1) that I am expecting too much regarding how to provide for my material needs or 2) that there is abundance and opportunity all around me, but I refuse to see it.

Any thoughts or interpretations would be greatly appreciated.

I think you have to find the balance between a spiritual and aloof life, and one which will allow you to survive on some basic level.

Even though 53.6 and 52.6 would appear to be affirming spiritual retreat,
I would take 55.6 as being a warning of what may happen if you do not find this balance:

Abundant is his house,
screening off his household.
He peeps out of his door.
It is very quiet, and without people.
For three years, he is unseen.
Misfortune.

Screening oneself off from others for quite some time, keeping contact to a minimum. Things do not go well.

At the time of your reading,
You do not have a job or appointment. You are trapped in a situation.

Line 6 officer (wood) 官鬼丙寅木 sits empty under the day and month of your reading. If you are looking for a job, the managers/directors/recruiters do not has any interest in your application. The line 6 in hexagram 15 pushes you back into a trapped situation.

Line 6 is a host line (you) and you try to move on. Line 3 may be your child or children. If you have a child or children, they may have an effect on what you can do.

Line 5 refers to wealth. The finance situation is not improving, but resources are draining (wealth moves back one step).

However, this is not a bad hexagram. Day or month of wood: you move out of the bad situation.

At present, you are not focused and try to force yourself through the situation. Line 6 of hexagram 15 hinted that you stop standstill at the right time. If you refocus, you will move towards better times.

You cannot crack the code to get what you want at present. If you refocus your energy and is determined, small things can be achieved. It will be a good start. Be humble and accept the confinement of the situation.

Now the reading: Quote
above; mountain, stillness
Below; mountain, stillness

In this hexagram the male principal, represented by the yang lines is striving upward, and the female principal, represented by the yin lines moves downward. The inaction results from the fact that these movements have come to a conclusion in each trigram.

Keeping the back unmoving so that one no longer feels one’s body, and walking out into the courtyard without noticing the people there brings no blame.

This alludes to the practice of Taoist meditation. In what has come to be known as the ‘spiritual alchemy’ of Tao. The spine is thought of as connecting three ‘crucibles’ or pools of energy. One is located at the base of the spine, known as the Lower Dantian, the 2nd is located at the level of the solar plexus behind the stomach, and the third is located in the head, between the eyes, known as the Upper Dantian. By meditation and breathing the sexual energy of the pelvic region is gradually distilled ever upward. Gradually the initiate is filled with nothing but spiritual energy and is in a state of oneness with the energies of the universe. Ultimately, the point of the practice is to achieve immortality.

Gen signifies resting, desisting, coming to a stop. When it is time for inaction, that is the time to stop. When the time comes for action… then act! By action and inaction, each at its appointed time, a man makes glorious progress.

The inaction represented by Gen means inaction in its proper place and time. The upper and lower trigrams exatly correspond to each other, but do not interact, hence the wording of the judgement.

The mountains standing together is the image of Gen. The Superior Man, accordingly, does not move in his thoughts beyond the position in which he finds himself.

Line 6
He is noble in his inaction. Good fortune.
This is the goal of inaction; spiritual nobility, which brings nothing but good fortune.
Unquote

Hexagram 52 is mountain on mountain, one of the 8 pure hexagram. Situation is not good at present. Line 6 gets you out of the situation.

I would not recommend sitting still and wait for August and September because metal is very strong in the 6th line of hexagram 15, forcing you to stay put.

Hexagram 15 is also the image of a man with many female friends, wherein you are on the outer limit (on the way out, sort of “ the hell with the man” in the picture.

Since this is not a specific question, you will not get specific answers.
If you have a job interview or want to know the chance of a specific job, you can cast an iching reading. If there is an interview, one can read both Iching and Tarot to improve the chance or know what may happen (positive or negative) about the job.

Do not give money to any so call masters. An experienced Iching reader helps people without charging. If the birthday (hr/day/month/year) is known, you can run a lifetime hexagram and track down to 2012/2013 hexagram and analyse along with 4 pillars and the Tse Mei star map (year) to see what are the possibilities.

Cheers...:bows:

Any thoughts or interpretations would be greatly appreciated.

'The kingdom of heaven is spread out upon all the earth, and men do not see it.' Gospel of Thomas.

Also, I'll call attention to what I've observed, that the noble in 52 line 6 typically goes against what I feel like doing, so noble takes on a dutiful action and priority.

On your 55 and lines, it must feel like thunder is about to explode. Tough spot, I wish you well with it. I think Yi probably reflected your emotional extremes in creating this image, but also requiring a decision, a judgment.

Will just offer my impression. Your question was with a broad stroke, and your answer seems equally broad. I mean, hopefully we will leave something to world that's good and worthy. That is the feather which falls to earth from the final stretch to the geese's destination. But the general idea of going steadily along the way is implied. So that sounds like pretty good advice, and seems in accord with your own less material goals. Fly, be a noble minded goose.

What should I do with my life?
52.6 > 15

The casting suggests that you stabilize your life by service. Something simple and dealing with people, even if below your level of education, like cashier.

Thank you everyone for your interpretations and insights. Its quite right that I must find balance between spiritual life and livelihood. I've struggled for quite some time to define what that means to me. Ever since my apprentice days, I've lived comfortably at the subsistance level. So it will take very little income to improve my situation. Thankfully my student loan payments are small enough and stretched so far into the future I probably won't live long enough to pay them off. ;)

Pocossin, you're on point. I agree; Money coming in from humble, people-oriented work would meet my immediate needs while nurturing my spiritual efforts.

Long Yi, thank you for your detailed reading. Your comment: "...man with many female friends, wherein you are on the outer limit (on the way out, sort of “the hell with the man” in the picture)" certainly sounds like my estranged, soon-to-be ex-husband. Would you be willing to do a lifetime reading for me? (3:33 PM/19th/August/1968) This sounds like something that could be most helpful.

Meng, quite true. My general question did beg a general answer. After thinking more about these answers, even though I miss seclusion a lot, I returned to the everyday world because at the time I felt deeply that I'd gone as far as I could with my life there. I felt I had a lot of ordinary living to do. Your comment: "Fly, be a noble minded goose." is lovely and fitting.

Foxx777, I had not thought of 55.6 as a warning. I will relate to this line differently should it appear again in the future. I've struggled with the balance question for many years now. It is definitely turning out to be a process rather than a decision or a destination. So I think the Yi's answer spoke to this accurately.

Again thank you all for the helpful feedback.

Thank You Long Yi

Wow! Thank you for the reading Long Yi. I'm pretty sure that I was born in daylight savings time. I looked up the history of the law and the Uniform Time Act was passed in 1966. I was born in 1968 (i'm 43) in a state that observed that law. So that would mean that my lifetime hexagram is 53?

I'm completely shocked by the extent of the dominance of metal in my personality, but considering the imbalance with water and fire it makes sense. I've struggled with poor kidney energy my entire life. Tons of health problems, constantly low energy, depressed and cold. That's one of the reasons I began study with my teacher. So this is a picture of my energies at birth? Does training/self cultivation alter this? In other words does one's birth configuration impede or limit one's success?

I wonder if the following quote applies to my situation and my choice to leave training a few years ago: In the Taiji Quan reality, if the metal/discipline is removed too soon, replaced with wood/life, then the earth/body container is damaged.

You've given me a lot to think about. Thank you.

If you do not believe in such nonsense, then why layout someone's life map and use it to comment on her character as if it were fixed? Even though my reading may suggest that I am 66% metal at birth that does not mean that is who I became. You are not in a position to draw such conclusions about my present life or personality. You did not ask me questions to learn more about me before drawing your conclusions. Do you make such unfounded assumptions about others regularly? That feels more like bullying than respectful, compassionate insight or guidance.

I think what we make of ourselves is 2 parts our efforts and 1 part what we have to work with in the first place. Maybe my reading's elements are accurate, but your interpretation is not. But I understand. Its easy to fall into a trap of interpreting other people's readings in light of our own weaknesses and bias.

Not until my 40's did I begin to learn to stand my ground, speak my mind and remain persistant in the face of obstacles. And still I struggle with this. Thus my question about what to do with my life and my persistent indecision in the midst dealing with the trauma of the last several months. And regarding my marriage, the male metal in this case is unrelated to another female. Your reading appears to be based on an underlying premise (assumption) that a woman with a back bone who stands up to her husband when warranted will naturally force him to find another woman. All I can say is good grief to that ridiculous assumption...and good riddance to any man to which that may apply.
