Er...no, actually. (Or not yet, anyway, and it's been several minutes.)

Not in inbox...
nor in spam folder...
nor in results when I search for "onlineclarity" (the "from" address, I presume).

(Also - phew - not in results when I remember to set the search to "all folders"...)

Edited - and I just went back and refreshed the settings page again, and the box is indeed checked.

...3 hours later, still nothing. (Am searching all folders, subject: mention, from: onlineclarity.co.uk. Also tried "keyword: mention" in place of subject. The last result from either of those is from August 7th.)

Ugh. Though actually, that may be by design... I seem to remember reading it only sends the emails for threads you're not already watching. Hope so.

Update! @Liselle, @Trojina and anyone else who might like to get email notifications of mentions and quotes: have a look at your forum preferences page. (Supporters only.) Hopefully if you check the boxes, the emails should start coming.

The other issue is that mentions - @-ing people - still look as though they're working for non-supporters, even though they aren't. That is, the person doing the @-ing sees the linked username in their post, but the person they tag won't be alerted. I am hoping to find a way to turn off the linking so it's not misleading, but not sure it'll be possible...

I never did want email notifications of mentions, definitely don't want those. All I was talking about was the forum notifications with the bell and the red numbers here, those were the ones I wasn't getting. Turns out non supporters can't tag at all but it looks like they can ? I thought non supporters could tag for a while but then not be able to ?

Anyway I did get your notification today.

That's OK - if you don't want the email notifications, leave the new boxes unchecked.

Yes, newcomers do get all the shiny features at first. We have a bit of progress on that too: 'visitors' do still see the promising-looking dropdown of users to select from when typing after the '@', but when the post's published the mention no longer shows as a live link. That makes it a bit less misleading.

Aren't newcomers visitors ? Are newcomers different ? Or maybe anyone just gets the features but then after a while they don't...I don't know. It's a bit confusing for them I imagine. Mind you I rarely have seen any of them use it anyway.

Oops, @hilary we're talking about different things. I meant I'm not getting emails about @-mentions. You sent me that one yesterday, and Trojina sent me one this morning, but I didn't get emails. I manually looked in various folders, and also ran a couple different searches, and found nothing.

Just checked again to make sure - yes, the box is ticked.

Wait - do you mean we only get @-mention emails for mentions in threads we're not already watching? You didn't mean new posts / thread updates?

That...doesn't make much sense to me. The reason I want mention emails is because if someone summons me, it's important (er, relatively speaking), and I can make them all go into a special folder which is pinned to the top, and my email makes it obvious when there are new (unread) items there. Versus having them buried amongst other alerts such as likes.

So for that reason I'd want all my mentions emailed to me. ("All" lol - I don't get very many, unlike you.)

Yes, that's what I meant. The idea would be not to get two emails notifying you of a single post. I will dig through the settings and see if there's anything editable...

...no, nothing editable. I have asked add-on author what the default behaviour is and whether it can be changed. (It may be that I'm wrong about the default behaviour and there's actually an email send bug, of course...)

Oh, mm. Good point; hadn't thought of that. I have thread update emails turned off altogether because I'd found XF's alerts about those are plenty and I wasn't ever looking at the emails.

Will wait and see how it works out. Maybe it'll prove to still be helpful; maybe I won't see any point if I know it's only some of them.

If anyone else has opinions, that would be nice...Trojina said she doesn't want mention emails at all, but maybe if people who might be disposed to use them would chime in?
