I had to share this with you guys.

I just had a major freak out thinking I had lost my iPad. I was seriously about to come apart at the seams.
In my fluster I ask Yi "Where is my iPad?"
It says, 4 unchanging.
My (ridiculous) response? "You don't know? What do you mean you don't know! OMG!" (Indeed, far too dramatic and way wrong, btw, as Yi was not saying it didn't know....smh...I have issues

Turns out it was 'covered up' in my bed! hahahaha

Just in case it would be helpful, a few of the other questions I asked before discovering that I had thrown the covers over it....

Is it in my house?
17 unchanging
I took this to mean yes, go with the flow (meaning: go back over my flow events that lead me to this conundrum). I do this, and no dice.

I can't remember my exact question that I received this toss for, but it was something along the lines of, "Can you give me a clue as to it's whereabouts?" 18.3.6>7 was the answer there. I'm not quite sure how that ties in.

The question I asked just before pulling the covers back and discovering it: "Where is it?"
58.1>47 Confined in an opening perhaps? 58.1 Responsive opening. The covers respond to my pulling motion and uncover it from it's confinement?

Either way, so glad I found it, and that I got a chuckle out of the answer once I did.

I wonder which translation you're using because I think the I Ching answered you with the very first answer of Hex 4, which has as one of its meanings: envelop, pull over... or even an actual cover... which literally answered your question. This is why it's important to check multiple translations of the title (especially) of your Hexagram. Hex 4 doesn't just mean "Ignorance".

I laughed at your response, 'what do you mean you do not know!' I've said it too.

I think that question deserves consideration (but then I'm a fool). Are there times and situations when the future depends upon time and the choices we make along the way? If so, then it's feasible that the Yijing (consciousness behind the oracle aspect*) doesn't yet know. And if I go on asking what is not yet known, I'm gonna wind up pissing myself off. I don't think Yi turns its back easily or quickly. But if something either can't be known, or is something you are not able to understand yet, then what more honest answer could Yi have offered to you?

In addition, I personally think Yi has a sense of humor. It's great you could laugh along with it. The laughter of master and child. Or is the child the master? I don't know.

* I have found it useful to make a distinction between the oracle and the Yijing artifact and work, and the works on the work. Yijing offers both, but they're not always the same thing.

One can create their own oracle out of whatever images which you deem represents possibilities. You can design a system of actual divination, ie cards, dice, marbles, coins, sticks; anything random along with what can be structured and not be redundant, will work. To be reliable, and for it to speak to you, are the must haves.

But all that is not to be confused with the Yijing, any more than confusing an elephant with a tree.

mryou1: I agree that it answered my question the very first time. In fact, it answered it right out directly. That's why I laughed when I found it under the covers. Still gives me a chuckle today. The subsequent questions....well, this was a good example for me to reference later. I think it shows me that I get an answer the first time, and I should focus on that answer instead of trying to muddy the waters with more questions, as I will only confuse myself.
Sometimes I feel admonished when I get 4, and this was a great example of how it doesn't always mean ignorance. So it was a good lesson for me about 4 :)

Meng:You bring up some very good and deep points. In some of the things I've been reading lately, the statement has come up more than once that we cannot receive any information that we are not ready for. So perhaps that is the issue in those times. I have had several situations that I can think back to where I certainly wasn't ready to hear the answer, only I didn't realize it until much later. I think too, for myself at least, that I have to be in a mindset where I can receive and understand the answer, or I am going to go around in circles only pissing myself off more, like you stated.

Definitely the Yi has a sense of humor. I love that! I am constantly amazed at the answers and when I get something so obvious it just amazes me further.

For instance, once I asked where something was and it said 19 unchanging. The item was right beside me! It was near.

Love the i ching
