Hello! I have been working hard with the i ching today, and I am curious as to people's views on moving lines and the resulting hexagram. It seems to me that moving lines represent a point or points in a current situation where action may be taken, but at the same time, imply one's success or failure. From this success or failure, we move from the current hexagram to the future. The i ching tells you how one might advance in a given matter, whilst assuming how likely you are to implement the action given in the moving line.
For instance, after many questions regarding a matter important to me (my pursual of a woman), I asked the i ching this:

'Measure for me the chance for success in this matter, at the present time, assuming I conduct myself in the right manner'

Answer: 15.5 > 39

My chance for success is small, the moment on which it hinges is indicated in line 5 - knowing when to take more impressive action - and then moves to obstruction. There is an opportunity for progress, and in the line an action is given, but it seems I am going to miss it.

SO

'In 15.5 an opportunity for progress in this matter seems apparent. Please give an alternative future hexagram if I apply 15.5 correctly'

Answer: 5.2.3.6. > 42

Very interesting! What are people's opinions on this method of interpretation? I am aware that there are some conflicting views on the secondary hexagram and its meaning in divination.

Max:

Thigs are relative, don't take so seriously all what you read, but read all with much care for your own interest.

At first your post seems to be something abstract, and you post in Exploring Divination, later you become more concret, and, say, pesimistic.

If you go to have sucess or to fail is not what the I Ching will go to tell you.

First of all think at your own goal, maybe you need:

1) an answer about moving lines theory and interpretation, or
2) you need a woman
3) both?
4) none?

2nd. get the signs, you have get 15.5 > 39

If you believe that past, present and future are yet fixed, you are fried, better to ignore it. But if you believe that you have some chance, read the text from a version you like and ask yourself about what the text is telling you.

If you take Whilem/Baynes Hex.15:

MODESTY creates success. The superior man carries things through. [Comment:]...can carry out his work to the end...
THE IMAGE: Within the earth, a mountain... Thus the superior man reduces that which is too much, and augments that which is too little...
Why do you supose that your chance is small? Fix that words: modesty, success, end (or goal). What can you do with them? What in relation to your own goals?

Now the movig line:
No boasting of wealth before one's neighbor. It is favorable to attack with force. Nothing that would not further.
To proceed with energy will further you, but be modest, take the profit that you will get, dont ask for more. It don't speak of small chance.

Take a look at Hex.39:
OBSTRUCTION.
The southwest furthers. The northeast does not further.
It furthers one to see the great man. Perseverance brings good fortune.

You can go in good or bad direction but what you need is wise advice.
From whom can you get this?
1) consulting the oracle, of course, the old great man, and
2) being loyal with yourself, keeping firm your own goals, the old great man is inside you, speaking in your ears, ask him.

Why will you go to miss your opportunity? The I Ching don't tell you nothig like this, I believe.

When you will have carried out your work to an end, another work will appear, that's the obstruction, the impediment, another turn of the wheel. Get the woman, make your job, it will not be an end but a beginnig.

I believe, maybe although good for me it's not good for you but who does know? Nobody's perfect.

Yours,
