I guess a big part of my own search is for what has been and remained human since ancient times, for the kind of continuity that survives the collapse of cultures ad civilizations with all their fads and fashions and modernisms. That something has lasted for thousands of years gives me a promising sign that we're tracking a human Dao.
Still looking for evolutionary advances though. We need a whole bunch of those.

yes, i took the path of orange sunshine and never looked back...just kidding. I did look back and then just kept going. That's why I am what they used to call "far out" ; )
really just kidding.

I'd say you have to be at least a little spiritually inclined to have found the I Ching and this site.
they say Eckhard tolle is possibly the reincarnation of Meister Eckhart. I like both men.
And may I say it is refreshing to hear someone say "what is a sufi?" and "how do you know where your mercury is"? YOu must be very young Lightangel? your innocence is engaging.

Lightangel must be a Sufi. Only Sufis don't know what a Sufi is!

Eckard Tolle the reincarnation of Meister Eckhart? That's a welcome idea, since the former is everywhere and the latter (along with de Chardin) is conspicously absent from the best seller section in the bookstore so to speak

.

Micheline, I do wish I was young but I think I just have to get out more!
biggrin.gif
. I guess I haven't followed a very spiritual path up to now... I find it baffling that the question "what is a sufi" is not a very natural one... From that point of view I am the Young Fool!

So most people here are also into astrology, I guess (and tarot). I'm not sure how old you have to be to have been a hippie, but is that what you guys were?
lol.gif
- I laugh at my question, but the mention of 'acid', and the way Martin ran away with the sufis (maybe that is a mild exaggeration of the facts
biggrin.gif
)... In any case, young people these days don't seem to be as spiritual as the ones from the sixties and they still do drugs that are as bad as acid, I suppose.

I wish I had found the I Ching via some wise old man, like Martin, but it was in a book store, in the shape of a marketable red book with pre-cooked answers in every possible categoy, from 'love' to 'waiting for someone'(?). What is still a little obscure is why I found it interesting.

Anyway, surely there's a reason for everything (or maybe not??) and, I was gonna say that this might take me somewhere, but I'm sure it already has (i had never even browsed an internet forum before, for starters - and this forum is like a hidden world, like another dimension in several ways), even if I don't feel any wiser and I still feel terribly inadequate when I see the amazing intuition that most of you possess.

Have any of you had a 'spiritual master'? Where do you get one?

I know that sounds like a very hex 4 question, but the worst questions sometimes get good answers! And if I try to refine my question I will never post this post!

Martin,

Why don't you start a poll? let's see if everyboy really knows what a sufi is... I have my doubts!
happy.gif

Not that I mind, being a sufi, from what I hear, being a sufi is far out!

No, no!!! I meant the man that introduced you to the I ching!!! Not you!!! are you nuts???

rofl.gif

Yes, yes, you are wise, and you are a man, but I'm sure you're not old, even if you were old, which I'm sure you're not!

Are you convinced, or should I go on repeating the same??? I didn't mean you! I didn't mean you!
rofl.gif
!!!

I bet you can't even do all the poses (postures? I've done yoga! just can't remember what they're called) the old man did, so it can't be you!

A wise ...old soul, Martin....I think thats what she meant!!

There IS someone on this board who has a lama teacher...kind of like a spiritual master...from an ancient lineage.

But spiritual wisdom and intuition.....they are a horizontal process, not a linear one. At any moment in your life, you can be there regardless of how old, how young or how "studied" you are...Light, angel-wings are available to all.

People from the sixties however , ahem, well, i thnk that was a special portal for some reason. HOwever, it is never too late to be the YOung Fool. Its a good place to be.

What is a Sufi again?

Thank you, thank you, I feel much better now.

You're so funny, I can't stop laughing.

I would like to say something about 'masters' but I can't find the words at the moment.
Perhaps that's not a coincidence as masters don't teach through words. Not that they never talk, but .. well, first post this.

No!! No!!!! I didn't mean Martin!!! I meant his teacher!!! the yogi!!! it's right there, in his post! He showed him the I Ching book and Martin was the young fool and he's not a fool anymore, he's just young now, the opposite of old!
rofl.gif

I know, I read about the teacher in some posts, and I just wonder if she sees the teacher in person or what... And I wonder what the teacher does... or says... or how he/she guides her...

And a Sufi is that which only a sufi doesn't know!

To add to the confusion, that nice old gentleman (English of course) was not my teacher. He was a pupil, like me, of the same Sufi master.

A master ('mursjid' in Sufism) teaches by his presence, his atmosphere.
Being to being. All the rest (explanations, exercises) is secondary.

Btw, my Mercury seems slow today, or is yours even faster than yesterday?

Perhaps your moon is also in air??

Did you have a mursjid?
An average person like me, how do I get a hold of a spiritual master?

And you did run away with the Sufis! My intuition told me so!

Martin... isn't it a bit late for you... I mean... at your age...

I'm not sleepy at all, Lightangel, although I'm slow, well, not surprising at MY age.

And greetings to Master Micheline!

"how do I get a hold of a spiritual master?"

The question is: how does he or she get hold of you?

Teach me! Teach me!

It must be so cool having a spiritual teacher. Imagine introducing him to other people!

"Oh! and this is my spiritual teacher.."

Just like a movie star!
happy.gif

But seriously... I guess it's out of the question, getting a spiritual teacher... I really think I need one. I don't know where to start!

Anyway, I think that if there is anything in the world that is not accidental, then it is the meeting of a master and a pupil.

Really?
do you think they'll find me?

You haven't told me, have you had teachers? How did you meet them? how did they teach you?

And you, Micheline? did any teachers find you yet?

It is an inner world happening. The relationship exists (long) before it manifests in the outer world.
Where to start? It has already started.

Am I making sense?

Yes, it makes sense... BUT!
does it matter who the teacher is? I mean, once you find them in the outer world, do you know? does he know? and how do you know? And up until then, how do you know that you had already learned something???

It's a bit complicated.
happy.gif

First of all, I should say that what teachers teach is the art of living or being, something like that. It's not necessarily what one would call "spiritual". The distinction between spiritual and not spiritual is artificial.

We learn the art of living from our parents, friends, lovers, children and also from plants, rocks, clouds, flowers and animals.
So, in that sense, learning of living/being is always going on.

Now, let me ask you, before I go on and on and on, how would you answer your questions yourself?
