When you ask about the recent past, for example asking, what was that about, or what caused that, does anyone else find that the answer you get also still applies to the present, and even into the future?

That seems to make sense, since the influence that caused the event may last into the future.

But what I find odd, is if you did a reading before the event, and it has absolutely no relation or correspondence to a reading you might do after the event. Why wouldn't the earlier reading have picked up at least some of what the later reading picks up?

Pakua,

Interesting questions. Sometimes I think the Yi's first and most important teaching is to live in the present, because in fact that is the only place we can live and effect change at any given moment. The moment which is yet to come Yi can predict, but only insofar as its relevance to our present. The moment to which we look back is already dead, so it would seem that it would look entirely different than when it existed as potential. Where it picks up from is still in the present, which says not to look back.

Hi Candid,

Just from my own empirical observations, I'm thinking everything has to do with the present as well. Yi shows the present, and if you're interested in past, you can see how you got here, but if you're interested in future, it can show where things are headed. It's a continuum.

I guess I'm still so surprised that they (the before and after readings) can be so different though. That implies that something unexpected came up and radically altered things, or radically changed course. I would have thought Yi would have seen that in the first place.

Hi Pakua,

Doesn't it really depend on the point one stands at when looking? If we stand at 64 it will look one way. From 63 it looks another way. Even though it's the same river passing, our subjective relationship to it has changed: right to left - left to right. But only when looking backwards once across, which can be a bit vain. Sure Candid, but when I look left, I see Highway 69, and when I look right, I see Highway 128. It's like I was walking down the road, and suddenly entered a wormhole and now I'm on a different road altogether. I'm trying to figure out wha' happen?

Hi all,

I'll have to agree that most responses from the oracle mirror the present circumstances of the questioner, although there may be elements of past and future mixed in as well. The focus of the Yi's answer can shift dramatically and this is something that can be a little disorienting.
Many people turn to the oracle hoping for a predictive answer, but this kind of response doesn't always appear on command (one learns soon enough that one does not command the oracle) and when a response does have a predictive quality it can be a real surprise. Students of the Yi with a lot of experience already know this, but I thought it might be worth stating again.

That's very interesting. All along I've been thinking it was just me. I didn't think to look at it that way.

Thanks for mentioning that.

Hi Pakua,
Good question!
Candid,
Great answer.
Buuuut, the remark about the past being dead, or some type of continuuum, could be a limitation to the process. We are conscious of 3 dimensions, and talk a lot about the fourth, time. The way I see it, the sage sits in a higher dimension to us, at least the fifth. The sage doesn't exist in time, he is out of time. Here the past, present and future as we know it are all available to view. Now imagine that to the sage, our past, present and future are all still alive, and kicking.

I feel that sometimes the sage is trying to guide me to heal the past, so that the future can be. Sometimes by not living or being 'present' and instead 'reliving' the past, we can correct what may happen tomorrow. In this way the sage guides us, not to predict the future, but to think and become conscious of this next dimension, thru practices of neutrality, humility and 'centralness'. This is not a spiritual practice as such, more like an exploration of consciousness.

Try a simple fifth dimensional practice. The next time you have a really stupid argument with a friend, partner, loved one. Stop the argument. Ask the other participant to stop. Time has now stopped. Move now to the area where the argument started. Very precisely, remember the last words and feelings, just before 'those words' were spoken, or that 'look' was given, to cause the bad feelings. Now both agree, that time now, will start again. There is now the opportunity for different 'words' and 'looks' to be given.

If this experiment is successful, you could say that you have used fifth dimensional consciousness. You have changed the past to make the future, slightly more successful.
The stupid argument lives on, but we are no longer attached to it.

(other participants to these experiments must sometimes be briefed and in agreement with the process, or they will think your a total lunatic, or explode...)

David it is not only "Cool" but entirely correct from my perspective.

I would suggest only one thing to remember, If inital ground rules are established prior to a pre arranged argunent, does this not become just a heated bebate? This is not all bad, but does disquallify it from being an argument? I cannot exclude a fifth dimention and it probably is a crossing of a universal parallel or maby this is the 6th No one can be sure.
