On this first morning of the new year of the fire dog, I asked the Classic of Changes: "What is awaiting me this year?"
I wrote the question into my journal and then tossed the three ancient Chinese coins. They're so dark that it's sometimes difficult to see which side is inscribed.
I had carefully washed and groomed myself, burned some incense, and stilled my mind before consulting the Oracle. Now I received Weiji or "Before completion" (64) without any changing lines.
I then asked: "What will be the most important change this year?" I received Song or Conflict (6) with the second line changing. I was a little worried when asking: "What must I learn this year?" but received Shihe, Biting through (21) without changing lines.
Reflecting on these responses for a few minutes, I ventured to ask two more questions. "How can I overcome these obstructions?" I received Jian or Obstruction (39) with changing lines at first and second to Xu or Nourishment (5).
Finally I asked: "Am I ready for this spiritual path?" The response was Gou or Coming to meet (44) with the first line changing to Qian or the Creative (1).
