I have recently been promoted at work and will now have a lot more responsibility. There are some uncertainties for me. Firstly I feel there is enmity from one of my colleagues that had sought to put themselves over me in the eyes of others previously, but who now I shall be the manager of. I have some trepidation about some of these potential discontents. Additionally I am not sure that my knowledge of all the details is what it should be, and have not applied anywhere near as much focus on my work in the past year as I could have done; I have been cruising to some extent and focusing on other things in my life, and now this won't be possible. Undoubtedly however I have other gears I can utilise. Another possible problem is I do not have many allies at work, have remained distanced from people, don't socialise with others etc. and I get the feeling others don't see me as meriting the level of seniority that has been bestowed upon me by my manager (with whom to date I have a good relationship).

I accepted the job as the money is a lot more, but now I am wondering did I make a mistake and bite off more than I can chew. I asked Noble Yi for a guiding principle and it seems to have given quite an optimistic vision which perhaps surprised me as I feel quite a bit of foreboding about the future in relation to this job. it talks about "joint approach" in 19.2; does this mean working well with others perhaps? In the eighth month there will be misfortune - Wilhelm says that one can limit the negative aspect of that future time by perhaps confronting the seeds of evil now before they are allowed to grow? Maybe this could be the jealousy or the ill will or evil eye of others? I wonder when this eighth month may come?

For the future hexagram or contextual hexagram it is 24; it sounds positive although I'm not sure how to interpret it in the context of this situation.

Q: What is the guiding principle for my new job and the challanges I have to face? A: 19: 2 <> 26
19 meaning 'someone helps you'
26 meaning 'you find the right time'

Nuclear 24 - Returning

The guiding principle seems to be that you need to place yourself in a position of trusting that this role comes at the right time for you (26). This is your chance to reestablish a healthy balance. Your challenge is around 'shutting up shop' rather than engaging with the people around you in a positive way. It's important to know when to be authoritative and when to be engaging and to be confident in setting firm and appropriate boundaries (24). Remember that you do not have to face this challenge alone. Ask, welcome feedback (and engage with it), be open, maybe even reach out to someone you respect in the organisation who could become you mentor (19).

19.2 - Be prepared for the growth this opportunity will bring for you.

...or it may mean nothing like this for you.

Good Luck

The hexagrams are 19.2 - 24 (not 26)

I've seen 19 to refer to the way you feel after hearing a rousing motivational speaker. It's a sense of renewed positivity and the desire to pass this inspiration on to others:

19. Image
The superior man is inexhaustible in his will to teach and without limits in his tolerance and protection of the people. - Wilhelm

So you are enthusiastic about the idea of this new assignment but you haven't actually gotten up in front of the kids yet!

I think the problem with "the 8th month" describes expecting results too soon or in your case it could mean these people you are supposed to be protecting don't acknowledge your authority and the uneasyness you have that - while things may go alright for awhile - ultimately they might recognize you don't know what the heck you're doing and turn on you.

19.2 The change line, "Joint approach", assures you that the big boss has your back so not to worry. I would see this as also encouraging you that if there are any difficulties you can immediately consult with your superior - no need to think you're required to put up with any abuse!

24. Return
"On the 7th day comes return." The Bible says "On the 7th day [even] God rested" so don't think you have to be on the job 24/7!
