Hey Friends,

I am new to the Group and need some advice about Plum blossom Numerology.
I have been doing the coin method and also Wen Wang Ba Gua for over 15 years with excellent results.
Of late though, I have been having problems with the readings since the Yi is picking up things from my subconscious mind and answering accordingly. I have done my best to clear my mind before I cast the coins but it is not helping.

Hence I wanted to check out Mei Hua Yi Shu. I have all the recommended books, Da Liu, Wang & Sandifer, the Anthology of the I Ching. Although the method is simple, I am confused by the many contradictions. Is Plum blossom an authentic system?

Also, I have read some of the blogs by Water 0n Earth. I would like to contact him and buy his book.
Can any of you give me his contact info and where I can get the book?

Thanks and God bless.

Plum Blossom is certainly a fascinating aspect of Yi history and practice, but couldn't you just use meditation to clear and focus your mind before consulting?

Thank you cjait for your reply. I have done this but it is not helping.
Also, I really would like to explore Plum blossom now. I am intrigued by it.
If you have the contact id of Water 0n Earth, sure would appreciate it.
Thanks again and have a wonderful day.

I'm afraid I still don't see how the method used to divine would help eliminate distractions. When I divine I take up my Yi Dao circlet (64 beads of various shapes and materials threaded as a 'mala' for meditating on the Yi). I visualize each of the gua in turn, trying to reach a point of being completely at one with infinity...then divine. Everybody has their own method, so perhaps if you talk about how you focus people could give you feedback on techniques that work for them.

Thanks cjgait for your response. Your method sounds blissful and I will also do it. Thanks for showing me a new way of meditating on the Yi.

Since Plum blossom is a method of numerical calculation, I assumed that the distractions would not matter since it is like a mathematical formula. But only experience can prove me right or wrong. I have not worked with this system before. I am a reiki practitioner and also practice Chigong and practice the meditation techniques that I have learnt. It helps a lot.

I have had no problems getting accurate guidance from the Yi. Only of late I am unable to focus. I have always wanted to learn Mei Hua Yi Shu and practice it and thought that this would be the best time to start doing so. As I continue with it, it gets better although very limiting since I can only get one lower trigram in a 2 hour period. I have been reading the material sent by Pocossin and also Water 0n Earth and it has helped a lot. Thanks to all of you.

I hope the Yi Dao meditation helps.

I've read about Plum Blossom but never used it because it is elaborate and requires quite a lot of attention to detail. My life is a long line of compromises and approximations.

I use a very simple method to get a reading, but it's a little more complex to pick the text. I generate the numbers using random.org's integer generator, then run the result through a spreadsheet with the Nanjing University method to bring things down to one text, either a judgement or line. My personal preference is to never use more than one text.

Of course I'm a skeptic to the core, so my divinations are more along the lines of getting in touch with my subconscious to let myself see things clearer.

Regards,
Chris Gait

Thank you Chris. As long as it works, I suppose it does not really matter what system is used. your method sounds intriguing.

Plum Blossom needs a lot of attention to detail. Number the trigrams in King Wen's Ba Gua arrangement starting from Heaven in the North-West like this:
Heaven = 1Water = 2Mountain = 3Thunder = 4Wind = 5Fire = 6Earth = 7Lake = 8

If you are interested in numerology or a calculator for name numerology, here is a good numerology calculator. http://www.numerologycentral.com/calculator/

For those interested in Plum Blossom, here is something to consider. While the subject and object trigrams often show the answer you're looking for (or at least the beginning of it) it's also worth exploring what's not seen. For example, here's something I did today to determine my chances at a game of roulette (without going into all the details of how I play).

My casting was based on the lunar time and it was:
Earth over Earth (top trigram Subject, Mountain)
Also written as 7 over 0.
Earth/Earth is favorable and Earth is favorable in Summer.
The resulting hexagram is Mountain over Water, or 7 over 6. Also favorable in most cases with a kinship of "wife" / wealth, money, etc.

I felt good about my chances with favorable and strong Earth. So, how does one maximize this result? I noted the time (as it was also used in my calculation). The time fell in Metal. Not ideal for Earth but noted Metal in summer as dead. I could either wait until a favorable time for the day (7-9pm) or explore further. What else is favorable with the Subject of Earth? Fire. Fire/Li is 3 and favorable with Metal. This pointed me to my bet selection (third). The 7 from the subject Mountain trigram showed me to go for 7 hits. I also noted the favorable direction to face.

Section 3 appeared all 7 times in my bet selections. I hit 7 times with a progression for a profit of 414 units (7 out of 13 spins were hit) - note the 7+6 result. I watched the next 16 spins and would have won my next 3 bets, too, but was very happy with the result.

Happy experimenting.

Another case study:

Noticed what looked like a #4 scraped on counter while making tea - this is a counter I visit a few times a week and never noticed this so I thought it was odd.

4 upper trigram from sight
4 lower from m+d+t / 8
line 5 m+d+t+y / 6

4-Zhen, Wood over 4-Zhen, Wood - strong
6-Kan, Water over 7-Gen, Mountain - neutral
2-Dui, Metal over 4-Zhen, Wood - weak

Season: Summer, Earth is strong, Wood is weak, Water is trapped, Metal is dead.

Complaints (4) of feeling ill (headache) from something I ate (Dui) - possibly yellow (corn or lemon juice/Water) impacting liver and sinews (tendons, ligaments) - will resolve within 10 hours (Main trigrams+Hour). Try GB 41 acu-point (Wilcox). Interestingly enough, the line movement total is 41 and GB 41 deals with migraines.

There is no complete translation of Shao Yong's Meihua Yishu book. Da Liu's I Ching Numerology comes closest to it but still lacks the major part of Shao's work.

Hi,

I have asked the same question some while ago and the nearest I came to a direct translation of one of Shao Yongs books were in:
"A source book in Chinese Philosophy - Translated and Compiled by Wing-Tsit Chan, Princeton University Press 1963"
- in this book: ch. 29, The numerical and objective tendencies in Shao Yung. Nine chapters of his "Huang-chi ching-shih shu" (Supreme principles governing the World) has been translated.

(That Shao Yung maybe had nothing to do with the Plum Blossom Method see: "The recluse of Loyang, Don J. Wyatt, University of Hawai'i Press 1996" note 91 on p. 301; where the author are critical about Shao Yung's authorship of any such methods… )
