Hi All,

Please check this link out. It absolutely blew my mind. If anyone has a rational explanation for this, I would LOVE to hear from. This is really eerie(even for me!)

Oh, I forgot to say something important. When I tried it without concentrating on the resultant symbol, it didn't work!

Come, come, Leonard. Clue 1: the symbol you end up with is always the same one. And clue 2: that symbol occurs on all multiples of 9 in the chart.

These things are good fun, though. I saw one once on the site of a psychic scam artist: look at these cards, choose one, fix it in your mind to the exclusion of all else, and it will be removed from the array of cards on the next page you click to. It works every time!

I could tell you how long it took me to notice that every card in the array had been changed, but it would be too embarrassing, so I won't...

Dear Hilary,

Sorry, but I did not have that same experience, I did it seven times thinking of the symbol and I got seven different symbols(all correct). I did it twice without thinking of the symbol and got two wrong symbols.

So, I don't know what to tell you, perhaps you were thinking of the same symbol and thats what you got. I would like to hear from other people because it definitely was inexplicable to me.

Namaste,
Leonard

Dunno wot u mean Hilary ? You don't always get the same one ? I got different one each time. No idea how it works, but am sure its not thru mind reading. No I just can't figure out how it works, have given up trying - like life and Yi and everything - hah

Aha - this is a bit more sophisticated than I gave it credit for! It shuffles the symbols each time the program is loaded.

First, doing what they say: take any two digit number, add the two digits, subtract the product from your two digit number - will always give you a multiple of 9, less than 90. You can test that without ever trying the program.

Or as David (my husband) would put it:
(10x + y) - (x + y) = 9x

Then if you look at the page, you see the same symbol appears by 9, 18, 27, etc. All your programmer has to do is show that same symbol in his crystal ball. He does the same with a different symbol each time.

Life, Yi and everything remain to be figured out, though

Bravo Hilary,

Your significant other was right on. Exactomundo.
Oh, well I liked it better when it was a mystery.

Hi all

Yeah, I got taken by this for a while too. Then found out it was by nines. Just as Hilary said. You do the math and always come up with a multiple of nine. I liked it better when it was a mystery too, especially since I couldn't figure out how a computer or a computer program could have intuition. Well, it doesn't, but the creator sure intuited how to trick us.

Yes, definetly is a math matter but fun though.

Thanks Leonard.

oops

I thought I had it working okay.
I have to iron out an inconsistency.
I will need an hour or so.

Dear Dave,

It was working about 50% of the time, as best I can tell. Perhaps 40%. Maybe more fine tuning?

We should probably step out of the thread if you wish more tests. My email is in my Profile. Good luck.

Leonard
