Hello everyone, thanks in advance for reading and responding. I’ve been a lurker for about a year and using I Ching with success off and on for a few years. I really love being able to read personal applications of specific castings and all of your responses. This is my first post, so please forgive any lapses in post etiquette. Present situation: I’ve been in my present job for almost five years. There’s been good times and bad. I signed a contract for five years and I anticipate my employer wants to keep me on board - we have a good relationship. However, the situation is complex. I’m working for a practice with five partners, all of whom are quite unique individuals and that is difficult to manage. Furthermore, 3/5 are reaching the ends of their careers (should retire in 1-3 years). I feel I’m currently not receiving the reimbursement I deserve and the headaches are making me consider switching to another company and/or doing some online consulting. Additionally there is some legal matters I might be tied up in with the practice, but I feel a calling to do more and maybe starting a personal brand with blog/podcast is what I should start focusing on?Am I interpreting it correctly that I should try to stay with the practice for the foreseeable future while being resolute in expressing me/my family’s needs and concerns? The hexagram 31 is hsien/attraction - does this suggest that if I try to do some online work while sticking with my day job that I’ll attract a new opportunities that might organically lead to something more fulfilling when the time is right?Again all advice is appreciated!

The relating hex for 41.1.2 is 23 "Splitting Apart" - not 31. To get 31 all the lines would be changing, so we have to assume it is 41.1.2>23.

How should I approach changing jobs? 41.1.2>23

23 - This hex "splitting apart" is your context, refers to your question - about quitting.

41.1 - This line is about there should be a balance of forces between your superior's demands and what you give. This is up to your to decide. Maybe look for a job that either pays better or asks less of you.

41.2 - Don't talk down your current employer. What you want is a good recommendation when you tell them you have a higher offer somewhere else. Maybe they'll offer you a raise not to leave.
The line says making them happy with your good work is beneficial. "Undertakings bring misfortune" means in my experience is if you try to "bury" someone, talk bad about them for example, this brings bad fortune.

Hex 43 :The focus of this hexagram is about your resolution to see things clearly and break through. This is a situation where you have to respond fully (not react). Make an informed decision and then announce it, plus follow up and act quickly and decisively upon it.

line 1 - you are coming from a place where you have had to face things alone. Carrying on in this way has been a comfort for you but you have not faced the key issue that holds you back. Come to terms with this and you will be better placed to step forward.

line 2 - be aware of all the issues around you but do not get drawn into the dramas. Remain calm and let the old depart and embrace the new. You have to recognise what is the old and what is the new.

Hex 23: Seeing things in a new light is more essential than having thoughts of immediate gain. When you have achieved this then you will be better positioned to go forward with a new plan.

I tend to think that misplacing of changing lines or 'mistakes' in the divination have their own value in some way.

Hex 31: The Ideal Realising Person reflects this by emptying his heart. By exhibiting compassion for each person he encounters, he encourages them to draw near. (Karcher)

Good Luck

My_key, thanks for the response! I’m still a bit confused. Hex 43 is Kuai, resolution, five solid/yang lines under one broken/yin line. Line 1 is the bottom most line, line six the top most. My two changing lines were the bottom two lines. This means it should transform to two yin lines on the bottom, with three yang/unbroken lines followed by yin on the top, which is 31. In contrast hex 23, Po, is the mirror opposite of 43, with the bottom five lines as yin and the top as yang. Where is my error? Thanks!

Here we can see hex 43, hex 23, hex 31 together. It shows clearly that changing lines 1 and 2 does indeed go to 31 and that the error is mine. Apologies for that, I was having a non present day and got things mixed up even having checked them a number of times to verify I was correct in what I said before posting. How bizarre is life sometimes.
