I'm a bit befuddled today over this reading I got. The question I asked was "am I ready for marriage?" I asked it because it has been something I wanted for a time now but my friends have joked that I am not "marriage material" probably because of my somewhat wild past...anyways...the answer was 46.1.2 and as i read the lines it sounded like a definate yes to me and that this is definately the path for me now (as i felt inside).
What interests/confuses me is that this changed to 36, darkening of the light
in the past I always read the resulting hex as a result of the advice or situation depicted in the lines but this one just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
I have received 36 before when I was in bad state emotionally but I have not been like that for a long time.
I'm wondering if anyone can offer some insight about how to fit 36 into this reading?

Hi Alev

I would read this hexagram, changing lines and future hexagram as meaning that you are on your way towards being ready for marriage; but first you will have to sacrifice something. 36 I read as - marriage would be a difficult situation for you - you would feel, initially at least, as though some of your light had been extinguished. You might mourn your single status and your wild independent days. This could be another reference to the sacrifice. Remember that the Judgement line of 36 says that the hardship endured is advantageous (or that it is advantageous for you to persevere).

Depending on how you view marriage, you might think the sacrifice worthwhile at present, or not.

Yes, you are ready for marriage even though you are on the wayward side and thus don't conform to what people consider to be the ideal husband type. While Hex 36 says that if you want to have a wife then you are going to have to stay at home with her and not run around town anymore.

Hi Sophie and Willowfox!
Thanks for the responses. and I am cracking up laughing now, I am a girl so I actually want a husband not a wife! LOL!

But I like this idea of 36 showing the sacrifice I will make in the change of lifestyle by staying home instead of running around town. line 2 of 46 also mentioned a sacrifice too. I did go back and re-read the judgement of 36 and you're right it doesn't necessarily say that darkening of the light is bad, only that it sometimes is necessary in order to perservere. And this now makes sense too me here. i may mourn my freedom but yep, I think it's definately worth it!

you know, i just thought of something too, maybe the "hiding of my light" in 36 is advising me to keep my marriage ambitions to myself and not share with others who will laugh at them and put doubts in my head!
