Hi dear community,
First I would like to wish you all a very good year! May you all have a creative, healthy, lovefilled year, with challenges that are reasonable and enjoyable. I hope the Yi works with you in a positive and conforting manner.
I'm writing you now because I have certain health concerns and have been somewhat worried lately (inability to sense smell, for example). I will be doing a CT scan on Monday and wanted to prepare for it. I asked the Yi:
How is my health?
The answer: 36 with changing lines 1 and 2, going to 46. I became even more worried, needless to say. Does 36 mean I have a hidden problem? Or that my life is darkening?
Darned, 36 seems to follow me !
Any thoughts will be welcome.
Thank you in advance,
Hulda

Hulda,
I don't see 36.1.2 as an omen of danger or unsurmountable illness.36 is often a good sign for the one experiencing difficulties.
I could intrepret 36 in two ways here.....your "injury" has brought a period of darkness
and there is a need for you to protect yourself while maintaining your belief in your wellness.
Line 1 and 2 are both comforting. You might be down for awhile, but strong means of rescue are indicated. Your recovery does not seem to be hindered in any way. Rest and take care of yourself.
46 is a strong image of upward motion. out of the darkness, up to the light.
goodluck with CT scan

Hi Hulda
I can see 36 as being in a dark place i guess as being ill is.
I noticed in line 1 "he does not eat for three days".
I would imagine losing your smell may affect your taste which may cause lack of appetite
just wondering if I am right?

I agree with bamboo that line two is difficult but there is light at the end of the tunel and according to the line it is eventually positive.
I guess you are working through this right now from what you have said and I see the lines confirming that

Then 46 i see as slowley but surely you work out the issues

I saw this pretty much as bamboo did but maybe a slightly different perspective.

Steve
PS Yes good luck with everything

First of all, you say
I'm writing you now because I have certain health concerns and have been somewhat worried lately

My guess, since you've gone through the trouble of posting here, your worries are a bit more than "somewhat," right? It is very possible that that is what the darkening of the light is referring to: the darkening of your optimistic and upbeat spirit in favor of a darker and more pessimistic one. Line 1 may reinforce that since it seems to say that your peace of mind, something you've been working on maintaining, has been overtaken by an event in the world.

However, whether the darkening refers to your spirit or your body, line two is a very good omen. Don't worry too much about the "Lord of Light" and "Lord of darkness." I think that's Wilhelm's Christian theology coming through.

Also, the fact that you seem to concentrate on the main text of the hex and seem to ignore line 2 may indicate more of an inner problem with trust and acceptance than with an outer problem with your body.

In my experience the I Ching usually focuses on the most immediate issue. In this case, the most immediate issue is your worry and concern. After the CT scan on Monday, you'll have some more information, and if the scan shows a problem or a possible problem, you can consult the oracle again.

By the way this page lists 67 possible causes of your problem, only one of which is cancer, which i assume is what you're primarily worried about

Thank you so much for your answers! I am very worried to be frank, and yes, "somewhat" was an understatement. Thanks for the link on the reasons for loss of sense of smell. The CT scan will tell us if there is indeed a tumor.
In general I am so overwhelmed with a difficulty in completing the many responsibilities I have acquired, which, in turn is cause of great stress for me, enhanced by the feeling that I may be very ill (the lack of sense of smell being a symptom). Your readings are conforting in that I really should focus on resolving what causes stress, and, in following the otoneurologist's indications.
Thanks so much again for your encouraging comments.
