I asked, what are his secrets?

And I received:
57 -> 23 (changing lines 2,3 and 5)

I do have the person's permission, so it should be okay to have asked the question.

I find the answer very intriguing and would like to hear what other people see in it...

Hi Ithaki...

Well first of all, how can the Yi possibly tell you all his secrets in one casting of the coins? Maybe if you ask to see one secret they might tell you. And then you could ask for another and then another and then... *grin* But, in that answer, 57 > 23, I see the Yi saying "We're not telling." Very simply and very clearly... "Penetrating to his deep dark recesses? Nah!"

You know, I don't read anyone without permission, and when I do, whatever it is that feeds me the other person's 411 only feeds me what he/she needs to know. That's the rule. And the only way it works is to keep telling the subject what I see and feel (or typing as I did in Matt's case). That's the rule too. It belongs to them, so I have to give it back to them.

But... you could try. Sit next to him. Put your hand on his knee, and start talking. Maybe some secrets will come out that way. And if not, if you keep your hand on his knee long enough, well there's a good chance you'll get even better than secrets.

Love,

Val

Lol!
I like the advice about the knee, Val, will try that.

And I do have his permission. I thought it an interesting question. I think I could have secrets I don't know about.. And so could anybody... including him.

Maybe the Yi is saying just that: "I'm not telling"... Fair enough.

If anybody gets any other ideas, they are welcome!

Okay, to prove the point, I asked, What are my secrets?

I got 29->8, changing line 2.

I think the Yi is also not telling on this one.

Hi Ithaki,

I think that Val is probably right, the Yi doesn't want to tell. And the answer of the Yi also seems to suggest that there might indeed be other and better methods than divination.

But there are other possible interpretations.
Hexagram 57 is kind of introvert, so although he doesn't want to keep anything secret he perhaps doesn't always know how to express what is going on inside of him. And 23 in the background may hint at something that is rather subtle (mystical?) and therefore difficult to put into words.
I don't know, is this recognizable?
If there is some truth in it, the knee "method" will probably still work, of course ..

Hi Martin,

I like your second interpretation even better than the first!
I had never thought of 23 as being mystical... so that is interesting in itself.
And it makes sense, I don't think he wants to hide anything...
I'll try and see if the knee method works when I get the chance!

You two sure have got me thinking about that knee!

I also, like Martin, see 23 as having mystical components. However, Sun is a she, not a he.

Chuckling Chuckling.

Methinks the Yi is chuckling a little too.

The overall situation - Bo ? In this case ? Stripping away the covers to see what lies beneath?

57 ? Sun ? The Wind that penetrates the hidden (and this really can be a mystical hexagram) ? Here represents divining to find the unknown you seek?

Nine at Second ? Availing of Shamans and diviners to penetrate under the bed, where hidden ghoulies and goblins lurk! This is an instruction to use these methods to find what you are seeking?

Nine at third ? Would appear to be a warning ? If you find what you seek you will scare the hell out of yourself.

Nine at fifth ? The Yi adds that everything here is to your advantage? But most of all ? Without even initiating (divination) all will come to completion ? That is it will come to you.

In summary: Don?t look under the bed if you don?t want to scare yourself.

29.2 > 8

Taking 8 as the overall situation:

Here...Grouping your perceptions of yourself so as to reform your image of yourself.

Following one of Karcher's perceptions of 29 as also being the Ghost River - The place where our 'ghosts' or deeper/hidden things are too.

Line 2 - Seems to be saying - If you venture there you will find some things which will be of small value to you right now - But really it is not worth it.

--Kevin

PS Welcome Carriolan. I liked your interpretation.

I thought I was the only one here who remembers the old convention of signing off with --(name)

That dates you to internet circa 1975 - 80?

I really got what I wanted from this thread. Lots of interesting ideas. Thank you guys.

Bruce,
Luckily, I know for a fact that he is a "he"...

Carriolan,
So, you're basically saying, do not look under his bed, while you have your hand on his knee... sounds doable... I'm glad you think the Yi is chuckling, I like to think that it has a good time at our expense...

And Kevin,
Hand on knee, don't look under his bed... and don't look under my bed!

I think I can remember all that...

I have to agree with Val here. Feminine charm works much better magic than some funky ole priest.

Yes - Just getting on with what humans are best at... relating.

Ithaki,

I wish you the best with it... if you can manage to remember one more thing - lol

There was nothing in that reading, which I saw, which said that if necesary you could not hide under the bed from time to time.

Some people believe that the secrets of others are things we know but choose not to see.
