I have been struggling with finding a diet that fits my various emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial needs for years.

I have been a vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, omnivore, frugivore, many things. The search is getting old. I am a Buddhist/Daoist, and there are certain sects (not all) within these philosophies that advocate vegetarianism. I also find the ethics around factory farming and such to be very problematic.

At the same time, I realize that the best I have ever felt was when I was eating local, pasture-raised beef and chicken (sparingly), and incorporating things like bone broth into my diet. It seems to be what my body wants, and my unfocused ethical code is getting in the way.

Asking the Yijing whether 'What if I were to adopt an omnivorous and locally, humanely sourced diet?", I received Hexagram 45 - Gathering Together.

I am having a very difficult time interpreting this, and would love some input from the community at large.

Thank you!

Assembling together for the purpose of putting things right also has the connotation of investing oneself in something worthwhile, something that is almost a cause. Eating right in these days of factory farming is, indeed, a statement of high purpose. There may or may not be the presence of others to hold together with, because we can also hold ourselves together by taking right action.

Hey afraser42,

Asking the Yijing whether 'What if I were to adopt an omnivorous and locally, humanely sourced diet?", I received Hexagram 45 - Gathering Together.

My take on this is to gather together all the resources you need - (which is the underlined) and to use them for yourself. I think you will find real progress in yourself will come from working on your own individual needs. Being able to observe the changes in your body as positive when you adapted your diet is the best thing to go on sometimes we just have to allow ourselves to step out of the boundaries of our belief system to maintain our health. We are dealing with a lot of environmental and dis-ease factors which were not present when the philosophies were first written. - Liss
