I'd like to ask the i ching about my path in life. What I should be doing, or maybe a principle(s) to abide and live by.

What would be the best and most appropriate ways to phrase this type of inquiry?

Thanks!

Phrase the questions to fit real and actual things in your life,
The more specific question, the more exact, the better.
Deal with the problems you face, inner and outer, use it to find better ways.
The book is embeded with life principles, learn them.
Think small to become great.

How about ....

'tell me something I need to know about my life's path.'

... it might be worth trying and see how it works for you.

While some people say that you should be very specific about how you ask your question, I'm more leaning towards this: if there is any sense of synchronicity, or magic, or connectedness in our world, than perhaps the Yi will tell us what we need to know regardless of how bumbling or awkward we are in asking our questions. That said, one way I can see a specific question being useful is if it helps you better understand the response.

Best, D.
