(Don't be disappointed, you can hardly blame me, the old thread was drowned by new ones and kept sinking !!

Post initial thread, I asked a few questions about marketing my work, since the time to start doing that is creeping up quickly.

A) How interested will industry pros (editors, etc) be in looking at my work? 40 unchanging.
(I take it they will be?)

B) How interested will Agent X be in helping me? 51.6>21
(Itake it Agent X is no longer an agent or an option for help? On the other hand, Lise's interpretation speaks of marriage, and the relationship between author and agent is often likened to marriage...so I dunno?)

C)How successful will I be if I send my work directly to magazine depts? 57.4>44
(I assume 'three games in the hunt' means this is a good road for me to take?)

D)What are the characteristics of the magazines most likely to be interested in my work?
43.1.6>44
(I presume this signifies women's magazines as opposed to men's? I know both lines contain strong warnings, but I'm not sure how to apply them to my question. It suggests I will have trouble at first if I don't say certain things outright? Before I asked this question, I was mostly thinking about men's magazines, so my guess is that if I don't swing my pitch letter in a way that appeals to women, I will run into trouble?

E) Finally, I asked if there was anything I am unaware I need to do in order to succeed with this, and I got 47.1.4>60.
(Mmmmm, I think this speaks of sacrifices in terms of social time, but also is a warning about not getting ahead of myself with hopes and fears??? Not sure, but I asked about something I'm unaware of, so guess it's no surprise I'm unclear on this answer.)

Thank you all for any help :stir:

Who can stop at four potatochips when the bag contains six?

Not I, french-fry.

E) What will become of this article? 44.3>6
(Yikes, this suggests too much conflict to attain personal goals with it?)

F) Is there anything I can do to surmount obstacles and get this published on a nat'l scale? 19.4.5.6>10
(This seems to say I must be very careful with my approach, not to step on anyone's tails? Does it say anything more specific than that? Be positive, be smart and go for it, but be careful not to offend anyone in the process? These are obvious truths, but I'm hoping someone can tell me more.):bag:

A) How interested will industry pros (editors, etc) be in looking at my work? 40 unchanging.

It seems to be the start of things to come, so the time to act is coming soon.

B) How interested will Agent X be in helping me? 51.6>21

It would seem that he will be unable to help you at least for the present as he seems preoccupied with other things.

C)How successful will I be if I send my work directly to magazine depts? 57.4>44

I like this, as it suggests hunting magazine editors, and if you are lucky as suggested, you may initially catch 3.

D)What are the characteristics of the magazines most likely to be interested in my work?
43.1.6>44

Do you mean male or female readership, or do you mean what subject;, ie travel, fishing, sex or whatever?

E) Finally, I asked if there was anything I am unaware I need to do in order to succeed with this, and I got 47.1.4>60.

It says not to take any notice of any rejections, so don't give up when the editors decline your work as it is to be expected in this cut throat business. Also, you need to hurry this along and concentrate on your work, and to watch out for certain unscrupulous editors who will try and tangle you up.

F) What will become of this article? 44.3>6

It's going to be a struggle and if you realize that from the start then there won't be much of a problem for you, so make your plans carefully before proceeding, so if rejected, then walk away and keep searching until you find an editor that will accept.

G) Is there anything I can do to surmount obstacles and get this published on a nat'l scale? 19.4.5.6>10

It pretty much depends upon finding the right person, if they like your work then they will promote it, so you need to find that special someone who will help you, so aim for the big lights.

Hmmm, I'm surprised by "E." Did you see my other two questions? The answers made me feel as if I was up against too much. Not to say any Yi reading is going to disuade me from doing my best, but I just keep getting a whole lot of...actually, 44. What's up with that? It enters most every reading about this.

As for your question--I mainly meant male vs. female b/c the rest falls into place from there. I take the answer to be pretty clear that it's female? I'm not surprised by that if it's the case, but a little disappointed...I'd love to get naked in Playboy, if ya know what I mean;)

I asked about two people. I only have a few ideas right yet, but I might as well get as much going as I possibly can.

In both cases, I asked how these people would receive my work.
For X, I got 50.1>14
For Y, I got 27 unchanging

For X, I got 50.1>14 it suggests that you recheck your work before presenting it to X, then you should receive a warm welcome.

For Y, I got 27 unchanging This person will be much more critical, i think, and will require a more balanced article.

A lesson for writers everywhere:
'X' is the Chief Editor at a well-established consumer magazine printed in the US, UK and Europe.

'Y' is just some friend of mine!
