I have something to tell someone - but not sure about moving forward. I asked Yi to give me a CLEAR SIGN if I should make the call or not, and I got 46.3.6 to 4. Now I would normally take the 46.3 yo indicate a green light, I hesitate now due to the 46.6 and the resulting 4. Am I just a silly child or is this truly a situation that is new and unknown to me?

I think it says you should wait until you are sure you should move forward.

But the way you phrase your question makes it really difficult to get a clear answer. If you want a yes or no, why don't you just flip one coin: heads or tails.
Sometimes its better to ask, what situation will arise if I do 'A', then ask what will happen with 'B'. Or just ask what is the current relationship or state of 'X' and what way is it going? I find the Yi is pretty responsive to questions like this second example, you get two answers for the price of one via the moving lines. It's like a vector.
I think asking for clear signs is a little disrespectful which could account for the hex 4 result.

OK - I just asked, what will happen if I DO NOT make the call, and got 40.2.5 to 45

Then I asked, what if I DO make the call, and got 34.2.4 to 36.

I do not think I am liking either answer.

You should be liking ALL the answers you got, because they contain the answer to your question.

46.3.6>4 talks about taking things to a higher level, but you won't fully understand what's happening.

40.2.5>45 describes a situation in which you are released from gathering together with someone - it's a description of the obvious in this situation - if you do not make the call, you won't be getting together with the person.

34.2.4>36 talks about acting powerfully in a way that darkens or injures the light (in this case, 'light' probably refers to understanding, which suggests that if you move ahead powerfully with your plan to call, you'll muddy the waters of understanding for yourself).

So, overall, I'd say the message is 'don't call'. Would you agree?

It is clearly telling you to go ahead and make the call but line 6 is warning you to think what you are going to say not blurt out all sort of silliness, and line 6 says when pushing into the unknown it greatly helps to be persevering, in other words to get on with it.

Hex 34.2,4 says to go ahead and call then the problems, if any, will disappear.

So, now you have two answers saying make the call.

Yikes! Willowfox and Dobro I adore you both and appreciate your help -- yet it makes me crazy when folks disagree here, especially when I am feeling uncertain and insecure already.

Willowfox, the 36 does not worry you?

Dobro, I am thinking 40 isn't necessarily a "release" from gathering together, it could also be an end to the obstacles of getting together. Isn't 40 about releasing obstacles?

Theres no reason it should make you crazy. What you need to look for is your own understanding. People can share with you how they see your reading but of course they can never see from the inside like you can. The reading will always speak very personally to you - if you look carefully there may be words or images that may especially fit with your situation. An answer never means one thing for all time to all people - how can it when it has limitless situations to apply to.

If you feel uncertain I think you need to look at this more deeply yourself rather than ask for some kind of uniformity in responses here. Others can't make a decision for you.

The other thing is to bear in mind sometimes the more you ask the more weighty the situation can look, especially as the Yi uses some fairly strong imagery - but if its a minor question tone the answer down too.

I've seen people here ask 50 questions over whether they should send an email - in which time they could have done it and found out the consequences the usual way -

Anyhow that said i saw your 46.3.6 reading as telling this person this thing is kind of pointless (46.3) could be you don't really know as much about this as you think you do 46.6). Not saying anything looks like a happy release from a pointless pursuit - basically 40 says 'if you have to do something do it - if not don't, don't hang about in any case'.

If you do say it doesn't look like the world will end either (34-36) maybe it really doesn't matter all that much

Hex 36 does not worry me at all as it says in times of trouble keep your inner light burning and keep persevering towards your goal, let nothing change your course despite any problems that you may face. So when the going gets tough the tough keep going.

Thank you Trojan. I agree with you. I have asked 50 questions just about an email before, and each additional question, it seemed, dug me further into confusion.

It happens that when I choose to consult the YI (and there are plenty of situations in life when I do not) then I also choose to take the answer seriously and not blow it off if it's confusing or if I don't understand. It's this commitment to the Yi that sometimes leaves me crazy. In this case, I did end up contacting the person but I was first very intentional about what I wanted to say. I did ask Yi one more question - for feedback on the approach I intended to take, and got 16. It turns out that my contact was well received. All is good.

This situation reminds me to be thoughtful about what situations I want to consult Yi about, or when relying solely on ME is appropriate. If I do consult the Yi, I almost need to be prepared for it to be a rabbit hole, at least some of the time. Do others feel this way?

Thanks WillowFox for the words on 36. They are worthwhile to remember.

Well, on the one hand, I adore being adored, so that's good.

On the other hand, I'll let you in on a little secret. Dealing with with interpretations done on this site is often exactly like dealing with the oracle directly yourself - you don't know what to think or what to believe cuz it's all so confusing. See, in the end it's all up to you anyhow, so whether it's the text of your I Ching that you're dealing with or whether it's an online interpretation here, the trick is allow your own mind to respond to what you're told. It's that response, the ideas and feelings that come up in you when you read the Yi or read what Willowfox or I say, that will enable the voice of truth in your own mind to be heard. You'll know what's true, you'll learn the flavor of it and the sound of it. Suddenly you'll know for sure what the truth is for you. See, you interact with the Yi, you don't receive answers. You interact with us, you don't receive answers. You gotta do some work yourself. It doesn't work like a vending machine.

Great perspective, Dobro. I think I have placed more value on the real life experiences of others, rather than upon my own interpretation or what I read alone in the books. Your words will help me to use this forum differently, I believe. Thank you.
