Hi, very very junior member here! Would appreciate help with interpreting my reading. I started a course last year and have been debating whether to carry on with it or not. One day I think great go for it and another day I think is it really for me. Anyway, I asked the question " What about quitting the Holistic Stress Managament Course" and got 57. changing line 9 at 5 going to 18. On trying to interpret it myself am getting nowhere and I just can't get to the bottom of it! As you can see I have some way to go with working with and intepreting the I Ching! Your thoughts welcome, thanks in advance!

57.5 > 18
Gentle penetrating wind > decay, remedy what has spoiled. <=>
[Take your time to study the situation to see what can be remedied. Try to achieve clarity of purpose. Don't make any impulsive decisions.]

57.5: perseverance brings good fortune...nothing is not beneficial. Before the change, 3 days and after the change, 3 days.

18 also speaks of 3 days before and after: remedy what has spoiled..supreme success. Cross the great stream. Before starting, 3 days. After starting, 3 days.

You write "One day I think great go for it and another day I think is it really for me" -- like a reed blowing in the wind (57 is wind doubled). It seems as if you are asking the oracle to make a decision for you when you need to make it yourself. Is this line of study something you really want to pursue? You need to get clear in your own mind on that point. The period of 3 days before and after, which is mentioned twice, is advice to take the time to think the matter over and decide for yourself after careful deliberaton.

57.5 suggests that persevering with the course would be fine but that dropping the course would also be okay (nothing not beneficial). It's really up to you and you need to decide what is best for yourself. The oracle is refusing to make up your mind for you.

Hope this helps.

Tony

Hi Sherry,
You said line 5, changing to 18? What were the lines you got? If I know the lines then maybe I can help you. I'm still learning myself, so don't feel bad! I am also totally blind, but I don't let things stop me from learning something new!
All the best,
Celeste

This does not suggest giving up, it suggests that you keep at it but you will need to make some changes in your attitude as you feel that the course has not been going well for you lately so you really need to make an effort then the course will brighten up for you.

Hex 18 is about what has been spoilt in the past and now needs to be corrected by continuing to take this course.

Hi all, many thanks to all of you who took the time to reply. You have given me some very insightful advice to go way and think about. Tony I think you were spot on when you said I was wanting the I Ching to make up my mind for me! Typical me! Willowfox I think you are also right in that a change of attitude is needed!!

Celeste, good luck with your learning - hope you are enjoying it and it's going OK! You asked about my changing line, if you did want to have a go at feeding back, on hexagram 57 I only got one changing line which was a 9 at 5th.

Thanks again, maybe I can offer some help too a bit further down the road. cheers.

other lines

Hi Sherry,

What were the other lines, which ones were where, (yin in 1st, yang in 2nd etc? You said you have one changing line? I'm confused, I thought that the six lines change into their opposites, not one changing line and you get a different hexegram?
Anyway, I'd say thatit's about having confidents, being able to try to feel strong aobut the course. If you decide to quit the course, I'd say that you'll still have inner strength to keep going forward in your life.
All the best to you,
Celeste

Hi Celeste

Thank you for feeding back and apologies for a late reply. Sorry if I confused you! I currently use the coin method so if I throw either a 6 or a 9 it gives a changing line so you could have 1 changing line (which I did in my reading) or more. If i don't throw a 6 or 9 I don't get any changing lines so would just be left with the first hexagram to read. If you get one or more changing lines then that gives you the related hexagram. Hope this has clarified things! Good luck with the learning! Sheila

I-Ching reading

Hi Sherry,

Thanks for explaing that to me, yes I figured that out. I've seen ways to use the coins. Currently though I've been having a bag of quarters and throw three coins for each line. Do I do that or just have three coins out in front of me to work with?
Oh I understand regarding the late reply, it's just that for some reason I need some way of feeling each line because I'm blind so it helps me if I have physical coins in front of me. If I'm doing this wrong let me know!

Hi Celeste,

I just use the three coins. I have included below the Instructions on how to use the I Ching using the coins from the Clarity website below. If you have a browse on the website at http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/learn/ the instructions and more details can be found there.

The three coin method
Throw the three coins together.
Each head counts three; each tail counts two. (Or the other way round, if you prefer - there is no 'right way'.)
Add up the result - it will be 6,7,8 or 9. For example, head (3) plus head (3) plus tail (2) makes 8.

Getting a score of 6 or 9 gives you the changing lines. As long as you can differentiate the two sides of the coin this should work. Hope this helps! Sheila
