I meditate constatly and when I can, every day (two times i day if its possible). I wouldn´t consider myself a buddhist strictly, but I do have buddhist influence, especially in my meditation techique. The thing is that at the moment I find myself constantly asking if the state of pure ego absensce is atteinable (I at least think it is positive to have it as a goal), since daily life proves me costantly that it is a far fetched idea, watching people all aroud me (including me) fully entagled in their ego. Latley I have been able to recognize my ego, a shift of perspective that has caused a more mature approach to life in geneal. In an attempt to find answers, I asked the YI:

How am I in the process to reach the state of Nirvana?

and I recieved: hexagram 21 with lines 2, 3, and 5 changing to hexagram 1.

Any idea of what this meas? I kind of get what hexagram 21 is aiming for but the changing lines and hexaram 1 really confuse me. Thanks in advance!

let me introduce you to a site where your concept of Nirvana as a state to be attained...in a linear way, like progress, may be challenged. http://bozoji.com/forum/

so as I understand your question you are asking how you are doing ? Like 'am I nearly enlightened ?'.

Hmm well I wonder if your answer just reflects your question. You are trying to bite through (21) to heaven (hex 1). Can one bite through to it ? It's a big topic

The trouble with the whole notion of banishing the ego is....people get pretty egotistical about how much ego they banished. But anyway looks to me like you are doing what you need to do....not always easy all this biting through but you find gold.

Thank you! Ill check out the page. I really question myself about this stuff, how can you want not to want? and about the ego banishing it is true, its kind of an uncounscious viscous cycle. I do find myself in it at moments...

I note that with line 3 we realize something, and that realization is like having bitten into poison. Something noxious comes to light. With line 5 it is true that we strike gold. However, there is advise that we will bring trouble down on ourselves if we persist in our pursuits. So, best not to over-do it.

The problem with striving to reach stages of enlightenment is that the effort is self-defeating.

When you hear a truly enlightened individual speak (listen to or read the words of the Dalai Lama), you hear someone who is no longer entangled in the battle of having or not having an ego. Should I cut off my hands because they are not enlightened, or use them to benefit someone, even myself?

Personally, I perceive states of enlightenment to just that, states. Moments after enlightenment, I've been completely weighed down by material matters (i.e. 36.6). I've become much more concerned with consistency, reliability, and maintaining an insatiable curiosity.
