Due to the Universal I Ching being a completely integrated network, so all is connected. This connectivity is brought out in recursion of particular perspectives. In the traditional IC sequence below we have Traditonal Pairs (reflecting the use of recursion to elicit that sequence) where each pair reflects a theme.

In other sequences so pairs reflect themes, all due to the closed system that is the universal IC (for some other sequences see http://www.iimetro.com.au/~lofting/myweb/icmatrix.html)

The reference to 'context' is to the skeletal form of the hexagram, its '27-ness':

Nice summary, nice snapshot of your system.

It's really interesting to me how some of the headings for each pair are concepts I recognise immediately as matching the traditional meanings, and how some aren't.

The elements of each pair are reflected in other pairs derived from particular recursions. Thus in the above traditional sequence 01,02 pairs whereas in the binary sequence 01 is with 43 and the pair reflects a focus on issues of devotion to self, and 02 pairs with 23 and the pair reflects a focus on issues of devotion to another/others (be it a thing, or a person).

The 'purity' factor of 01/02 is still present but now paired with a 'sell' element, a dynamic that promotes (and so spreading the word, seeding, of 43 vs pruning the word of 23 - removing all of the accumulated 'rubbish')

In the binary sequence the 'pair' that is recursed is yin/yang, representative of 02/01 - and so deriving the full spectrum spanning that dichotomy from the level of 64 hexagrams.

Just as we form the binary into octets, so we can form the traditional into octets and apply the same sort of analysis as done to the binary - due to both systems apparently being sourced in recursion.

Thus we find relationships WITHIN each octet - e.g. reflection of the first octet (top row) gives us pairs of 'opposites':

01 - 08 (singular purity vs group purity)
02 - 07 (same but no as 'pure' as above)
03 - 06
04 - 05

Zoom-out to the big picture and this focus on 'opposites' still applies but now of one octet to another:

The 'natural' ordering by recursion is of yin/yang that leads to the binary sequence. From there that method is repeatable to hexagram pairs to bring out derivations. As long as recursion is used so the one method brings out all of the biases in expression contained in the Universal IC.

This means that local preferences, e.g. the "traditional" IC, can favour one sequence over others and in doing so will often specialise labels to bring out their unique status in that unique sequence - which is what small world networks do, interact the determined, universals, with the random (local dynamics) to derive a local 'best fit'.

The binary sequence maps line patterns to generic meanings very well. As we get more refined so the qualitative takes over, the symbols are more figurative (e.g. pairing 01 with 02 rather than opposing 01 to 02 - in the latter there is definite structural differences reflected in the relationship, in the former the focus is on sameness in general - i.e. PURITY and so not an opposites perspective, more different expressions of the same thing but now done at a more generic level.

In the binary sequence pair of 02,23, the pair reflects difference from sameness, 02 is unconditional devotion whereas 23 is more conditional. This is localisable to a top line difference.

IN pairing 01,02, or rotating hexagrams into pairs, reflects associations based more on the qualitative than particular line patterns etc - the WHOLE of 01 and the WHOLE of 02 are paired to bring out the SAMENESS in each - the shared focus on purity - IOW the local pairings in the above traditional sequence are of shared meanings, sameness from difference; the general reflects difference from sameness (01 is pure, 64 is mixed etc etc)

There are a LOT of sequences derived from the basic universals, all are up for identification and analysis! ;-)
