Hello everyone!

This is my first question on Online Clarity. Hope you can help.

The situation that makes me ask I-Ching often for guidance and clarity is a pending relationship. I like him. In a nutshell, we have been together only two times but what happened was very powerful and have changed me. I think he likes me too but one's never sure. There are issues, particularly an ex-girlfriend who doesn't go away. We (me and this guy) haven't seen each other for many weeks.

What does X want from me?
Got: 63.6 > 37

63 (After completion). 6 in 6th: . "After crossing a stream, a man’s head can get into the water only if he is so imprudent as to turn back. As long as he goes forward and does not look back, he escapes this danger."

I think that he doesn't want me to go back, forget what happened or leave his life. He would like me to "go on".

Then it changed to hex. 37 - The family.
Does it mean a potential stable and defined relationship?

What's your opinion on the meaning of both hexagrams?
Thanks!

Maybe the "moving on" part is warning him not to look back at his ex-girlfriend, but to go forward to join a new group/family?

Good Luck!

He would like me to "go on"

i agree with you since 63 text is:

"At the beginning good fortune,
At the end disorder".

and since he didn't contacted you so long i would say "move on" too.

fireflies and gato: thank you both for your opinions!

but they're quite different  I'm still confused.

Does the changing 6th line in 63 mean:

a) "do not regret it. Once it happened, I would like you to to carry on without changing what you feel"

or

b) "move on with your life and forget what happened"?

Anyone else has a view on the meaning of the changing line and hex. 37 for this particular situation?

After posting this I googled Online Clarity and found this thread: http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=6911
So, should I take a) as the correct interpretation?

Thanks a lot! :)

Hi Ataraxis

Hexagram 63 is about situations that start out good, but end up badly. It requires energy and dedication to maintain the positive balance. Line six is the ultimate end of this situation, where things really turn sour. I suspect that it would be best to leave it alone unless you see positive signs from him. Significant signs that show a real interest. it is true hexagram 37 is about the family. But what family? The one you might be in with him? Or somebody else? I would not put too much energy in this at the present time.

63.6 is about thinking you're complete with something, being slightly complacent, believing the hard part is over and that this is how things will be when in reality theres alot more to do, further to go. No use standing there with a satisfied glow., remaining enchanted by whats just happened is not the way to go.

Its impossible for me to say what it means in relation to your question because you asked a) about what someone else was thinking/feeling and most often the answer comes back about ourselves. b) the question carries the assumption he wants something..he may not want anything.

So someone here is standing around thinking 'ooh what happens next' when there is no next thats going to automatically appear and you need to move on or get left behind..theres a need to look forward not back.

Do you think that applies to you or X ? My feeling is its probably about you . It could be about X but then how can we make sense of that ? You asked 'what does X want' ? We can't take the answer as directly answering that question or it would be "X wants to stand around dwelling on the past not realising he needs to turn around and go towards the future" but how can he want that from you ? thats why i tend to think its about you as your question is very much past orientated...and you do appear enchanted by the past which is very much the feel of 63.6 in my experience at least

So you know 63.3 is about getting hypnotised by whats passed to the point where one loses ones grip on the action needed now..but how you apply that to this specific question has to be your job and job only. i can't see how another can orientate themselves within that.

If you asked about how you best needed to respond to this situation of not seeing him I think the answer might be alot clearer. As it is my feeling, though I'm not certain it relates to you, would be you are better to stop dwelling on what happened that was 'powerful'...living on that is very 63.6, living on past glory not seeing the present and kind of wake up to the future about what to do next ? What do you need to do next about this ? Somehow i think hanging around wondering what hes feeling and what might happen next is going to leave you far behind.

So what does turning to the future mean for you here in relation to this question. Its either going to mean moving on from him, or taking the initiative in moving forward with him i suppose.....but sitting and wondering about it...no that goes nowhere

many thanks trojan! :) You're right. The answer is probably more about me and the overall situation than about his feelings and ideas. I don't think the I-Ching is necessarily telling me to step back, it would be inconsistent with other hexagrams I got for other questions. It made a lot of sense what you wrote. sitting and wondering about it...no. that goes nowhere In a nutshell, action can take many forms.

and thank you gene!
