The question; "Concerning my relationship with ---, what is the best attitude/action to adopt/take at this time for each of our long term happiness?

If I had gotten this asking about the relationship in general i would think pull out, but given my question I am not sure how to interpret this.

Before doing more readings and complicating things I thought to seek help here. Thanks in advance.

29.5.6 > 4

The Judgment is positive and describes the attitude to take.

29.0
Repeated Exposure
Be true
To keep the heart secure is fulfillment
Advance will have value

As does line 5.

29.5
The pit is not flowing over
To appreciate the level attained
Is not a mistake

I understand line six to refer to the obligatory mourning hut ritual.

29.6
Bound up with braided rope and stranded cord
Put away inside a thicket of thorny brambles
Three years without gains
Unfortunate

So expect a delay while dealing with past issues.

Line 6 talks about repeating old harmful patterns or getting stuck in the same rut, not being able to break free from past traumas that are affecting your current situation. It's telling you not to repeat mistakes of the past. Learn from them and use this experience to avoid danger in the present.

Line 5 says follow the line of least resistance, I think. You're in a bad state, get yourself out of it and don't be overly ambitious to solve all the problems at once. For now, it's enough to get out of this bad state.

Whether this talks about your state of mind or the state of your relationship is up to you to decide.

Thank you both. Any insights on how Youthful Folly relates?

It's a hexagram about learning and ignorance. It often comes up in readings for me when I'm not seeing things clearly or not paying attention to the answers the I Ching is giving me. I think in this context it's probably related to old patterns and not learning from them. But I would pay more attention to the changing lines, in terms of advice to follow.
