Greetings friends. On New Year's Eve this year I sent a text message to my recent ex-lover and he has not yet responded. Today I posed this question to the I Ching:

Why has D***** not responded to my text message?

I received Hexagram 16 with changing lines 1 and 4; Enthusiasm to Turning Point. And to be frank, I haven't any idea what this means.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say this, but it looks to me as if you might want to consider that he was with someone else when you text messaged.

Thanks autumn. That's something that had crossed my mind as a result of hex 16, but I was hoping there was more to glean from the changing lines.

The lines actually reinforce the idea that he was with someone else more than just the image of "conquest" in 16 (among other things) for me. You want to know why he didn't respond, and you're given line 1- bragging- and the judgment that speaking itself brings misfortune. This suggests he is busy planning and preparing to impress someone, and speaking to you detracts from that purpose. Line 4 is a literal image of the joining together of kindred souls in "enthusiasm".... perhaps the Yi is asking you to read between the lines about the purpose of the "joining" here. 24 can sometimes mean someone is serving themself.

Hex 16.1 He tells others that he has important friends, not a good idea for him to do such a thing.

Hex 16.4 most likely at a party.

Hex 24 turning point in his status, probably has formed a new relationship.

Mobiles were going haywire around here on new years eve. I tested my own and it said there was a fault for a good few hours. You don't know for sure he was with anyone else it could be there was a fault on the phones, so I would ring again and talk to him.

Line 4 does say not to doubt.

Interesting response trojan. Calling him up is probably the easiest way to get to the bottom of things. Looking at my phone records I know for a fact the text did NOT go through when I sent it; unfortunately I have no way of knowing when it did go through until my phone bill arrives, as the records available to me only list a time and not a phone number with each text. (Arguing that the information exists somewhere in their database NOW got me nowhere with the Cingular rep ;) When I posed my question I assumed it had gone through... what sort of response does the I Ching give to a question based on fallacious assumptions?

Possibly one that doesn't make any immediate sense at all but makes sense once events have unfolded ? Or an answer thats pointing at ones own mistaken assumption, I can't say for sure but I find I do think as you develop your relationship with Yi you have more of an intuition as to when this is happening. But only you know that, even if others try to help with interpreting in the end the answer is with you, in how you interpret the lines etc.

Oops I only just realised you are asking about an ex lover, I assumed it was about a current one so was seeing the answer as counselling you not to doubt him. But as hes an ex I might be more inclined to follow previous answers.
