I am taking a summer class with a professor who is known to be hard on grading for exams and assignments, and just wanted to take to the class to learn and get it out of the way. But based on my exam, I feel like I can't come back on my grade as he hasn't given much partial credit or hinted to a curve. If I stay I could risk a bad grade on my transcript and may be forced to retake even though I don't want to. If I leave, I lose the money I paid for the class. Looking for someone to shed light on my readings below. thanks,

How risky is it if I stay in the class?

Hexagram 47.1.3 > Hexagram 43

Both lines indicate inauspicious, so confused how it leads to determination. The professor’s grading is harsh and doesn’t give partial credit, nor has he indicated a curve. So worse case, is I could end up with a permanent bad grade on my transcript. Best case, he curves the grade and I get a C or B. Worse case, less than that impact my GPA and having to retake a non pre-requisite class. Here I am wondering why i signed up for this.

what is my best course of action regarding this class?

Hexagram 41

I guess this is saying stop putting so much emphasis on it…

What grade would result if I stay?

Hexagram 32.2 > 62

If I stay in the class, then I will not regret my choice(32.2), but will don’t expect much. The result is little change (62) to my grade.

Quite a lot.
It will have depressing repercussions for a few years (47.1). A tree is something we nurture and cultivate, perhaps symbolising your permanent transcript, but here it is bare. I think your thoughts are correct, this professor will mess up your transcript.
In 47.3 someone meets with great calamity, to the point they lose their home and wife. Wife/marriage can also be seen as a contract, so perhaps this also refers to the overall course you're on.
43 is not only determination - it's also an 'official seal'. Again, I view this as you will get a bad grade, and it will impact your overall final grade.

what is my best course of action regarding this class? 41 uc / unchanging
Lose it. Drop it. Better to sacrifice something small ('use two small bowls for the sacrifice'), than sacrifice your whole degree with bad grades.

What grade would result if I stay? 32.2 > 62
If you're patient and stick with it (32.2) you will get a grade lower than expected, too low, excessively small (62).

Thanks diamant, I wish there was some way to tip you on this site for your response, but maybe that's an idea feature in the future I can pitch to Hilary.

I received additional info in class that the professor has decided to curve, so according to what he said, the lowest I could end up in the class is a 'C', which I guess is not as bad but could be worse I suppose. To get anything slightly higher, I would have to knock everything else out of the park, which is unlikely. It won’t kill my transcript and I would still get credit, but a part of me doesn’t trust him. The class is beyond my current level right now, and I think this was inevitable regardless of what I did. I was curious if anything changes after this info, but based on my interpretation of the readings I think it's the same ?

How would it go if I try to meet the teacher to discuss the struggle? Hexagram 51.1.3.4.6 > 52
By struggle I mean material. But I think this means don’t take any action – keep still (52), but quite frankly there’s not much time left to keep still. Seems like trying to get help on reviewing the test or homework might be like "stepping on eggshells" and should be avoided...
What should I make of staying after the curve? Hexagram 45.5 > 1
Line 5 no trust at all, dealing with someone insincere here (perhaps myself included). Maybe what he is claiming or stating is not what he will stick to regarding the curve. Let it go, exit the class if possible

I agree with Diamant

47.1.3 to 43
47: a test of character!
1: for 3 years meeting no-one, don't let it last, leave the class.
3: reaching for help for things that can only hurt you: if I were you I would lose the money instead of risking the bad grade.
43: means also deciding. You can make a clean break with this class, it does not belong in your realm.

Drop the class. The test of character (hex 47) in this reading lies in your ability to decide whether or not this class is worth the battle. In hex 43 it is fruitless to take up arms...

Thanks dancingfox, but it seems I may be too late. The school is giving me a hard time about withdrawal and the fact that it's past the deadline. The department coordinator told me I have to take it to the director of student affairs and explain my situation. This is a bummer, the readings I received below indicate difficulty getting the permission to drop I think?

What can I do to persuade her (director of the student affair)?
Hexagram 38.3 > 14

Seems like there is some challenge or that I am humiliated in the process.

What will result if I reach out to her?
Hexagram 19.2.3 > Hexagram 36

Lines 2 and 3 indicate some progress, but then the resulting hexagram indicates something else...?

Tell her all about his weird and harsh behaviours, spare no detail.
Also remind her that you are the customer here, this is your money (14 great possessions).

What will result if I reach out to her? 19.2.3 > 36
Unite with others and stop being polite. This will take the professor out of the way.
I've had this cast before for nasty people who go hide into their holes once found out.

Thanks, I think the professor is tenured so I may be careful what I word in the email as he's been teaching there for 10 years. I'd rather disclose details over the phone, but I did mention the professor only gave/graded the exam after the withdrawal date therefore I couldn't gauge my grade. According to the handbook, I can kiss my hard-earned money goodbye. Here's hoping that she responds positively, but will keep you posted what happens.

I agree with you, best be careful with the email, and tell her the details instead. I didn't mean the professor will be sacked, rather that he will back off, i.e. won't cause future trouble. It would be such a shame to lose your money, I hope they offer you some of it back. Fingers crossed for you.

I was withdrawn from the class, but unfortunately, they emphasized I would not get my money back. I guess that's how these institutions work, all about the money. Thank you again for confirming my doubts regarding this class, I need to be careful what class I select going forward. I should've taken the negative reviews more seriously. I'm feeling a little hopeless after this happened as to how I will survive my other classes, and how to proceed but perhaps I will open another post regarding a strategy. I can't help but feel I currently don't have the mindset for this path and that something needs to change schedule-wise with work and resource-wise...
