Same answer for two questions (about a job)

Hello, I haven't been to this forum in a while, but when I got the same answer for two questions, I thought I'd ask what you thought.

I am in a university job, 2 year fixed term, of which I've served 5 months. Because of a misunderstanding (rather an administrative mistake), I only realised after I'd started the job that the university hadn't put in the necessary paperwork for my employment (I'm a foreign national). Numerous promises to help me sort it out hasn't come to anything concrete and I think the HR rep is now officially avoiding my calls.

As a result, I've looked to applying for new jobs elsewhere. There are two vacancies and when I asked the Yi (on different days) about what it thought about applying for Job A, then Job B, I got Hex 45 changing to 17, both times.

I'm not certain if it's asking me to stick it out in my present place or not. Or is it saying it's a good idea to apply? I can't separate what I'm hoping it's saying, from what it's actually saying.

So, any thoughts will be much appreciated.

Thanks, hitchhiker

45 to 17, that would be line 1 of 45 changing.
The Legge translation says "If he cry out for help to his proper correlate, all at once his tears will give place to smiles. He need not mind the temporary difficulty; as he goes forward, there will be no error."

Sounds like a very clear message. The fact that the IC gives the same answer for jobs A and B, indicates to me that this choice is irrelevant at the moment.
The problem with your present job is solvable, you should only raise your voice a bit more perhaps.
Or seek help.
If that doesn't work try a water pistol!

agreeing with martin!! yes, a water pistol would be ideal.
but seriously, the university smoke and fog can be maddening, but you have a contract and you have already been working...seems they have a responsibility to you to work this out, and maybe the HR guy is not avoiding you but merely being busy cutting away at the red tape, furiously and with his own cries for help. Hope so.

Thanks. You see, I couldn't decide if the "going forward" meant going forward in the current job or going forward with a new one!

Part of me is also thinking, no harm putting the new applications in the post! Might spur my current university to do something! (I doubt the HR rep is being Indiana Jones...

I occasionally get the same answer for two questions and am always impressed by the precision of the answer.

I asked a couple of follow up questions. Just wanted to share. Will be grateful for comments.

I asked: "How would you evaluate my situation at [work place] now?"
Answer: 55.1.3.4 > 2

It seems to be telling me to stick it out. Funny, because nothing about it is pleasant at the moment. And it does feel as if I have "broken my arm" (Wilhelm/Baynes).

Then I asked: "What do need to do to resolve the situation (with HR)?"
Answer: 14.2.6 > 55

It seems to be telling me to carry on with what I'm doing and it'll work out? (If I'm over reading, let me know)

Then, in frustration, (I think I can't yet come to terms that it'll work out, since it's been so draining), I blurted out: "Are you telling me not to apply for other jobs?" (of course I've already done so)
Answer: 10.5 > 38 !

In other words, do it but be aware of the dangers and possible opposition...

Comments are welcome. I'm learning to read the Yi as much as I am learning to work out my own problems.

Thanks.

Hi Hitchhiker

Just in case the comment could be useful

About the diagnosis of your situation in your actual work place.

Calendaric calculations:
Is a Time that started in Fire (from december 17, 2005 to January 30, 2006) and will end in Thunder (from September 17 to October 31, 2006).

The time for 55 covers 315 days; so each line covers 52 days (7 weeks aprox).

55 is a time to chose between several options. One cann't have everything in life, without cost and sacrifice. If you have 2 or more paths, you can chose one but then you must leave the others. So, one needs inner clarity (fire in inner trigram) to examine the posibilities and outer energy (thunder in outer trigram) to follow the path elected

What do you want for your actual work? what do you want for the future? what do you need to accept and tolerate in order to achieve what you want? what are you willing to sacrifice if necessary? Those are some questions about your actual work before take a decision.

Line 1 said that meet the propper master (like a boss in work place) and remain with him is not a fault. This line is in the past (from the second week of december 2005 to the first one of February 2006) So, it was not a fault keep the same work in those dates.
Line 3 is in the future ( from first week of April to 3rd week of May): it would be like have a broken arm; you wouldn't act in that time; and you shouldn't try to do it
Line 4 is in the future (from 4 week of May to 2 week of August).- after that inactive time, you could meet again with the right boss for you.

The related hex is 2; when 2 is as related hexagram always points to an improve development of the situation.

Seems like: you can experiment some frustration in your actual work, but it would improve if you have patience and accept that everything have some handicaps that need to be accepted if the benefice is mayor.

Best wishes

Hi Jesed,

Thanks for your message. It certainly puts things into a different perspective. The time frames seem to make sense. I'll report back if anything significant happens.

How do you find out the calendaric calculations? Is it your own reading or is it available for 'beginners' somewhere? I'm quite new to this.

Thanks.

Best,

"There are two vacancies and when I asked the Yi (on different days) about what it thought about applying for Job A, then Job B, I got Hex 45 changing to 17, both times."

That means it makes absolutely no difference which job you apply for. It might *look like* there's an important difference between the two jobs, but for you at this point, it makes no real or important difference. Go for it. Toss a coin lol.

(If it was me at this point, I'd be asking questions along the lines of: which one's closer to where I live, which one's got a more pleasant working environment, which one pays better, which one's got work I will enjoy more, which one's got the boss I think I like better, and stuff like that.)

Hi Dobro,

Those were my thoughts exactly. Or what I was hoping it was telling me! That I had to do something to get out of a bad situation, rather than sit and wait and hope it works out. Thanks. And yes, I'm asking all those questions!

Thanks to all who've taken the time to reply. It helps me see the situation from different angles. I really appreciate it.

Best,

Hi

In the way I see it, the same answer is not "go for anyone of those vacancies" but "don't go for anyone of those vacancies"; specially if those answers are seing at the light of the other answers (like 55>2 in evaluation of actual job and 10>38 about not to apply to other jobs)

But, of course, is your choice

Hi Jesed,

I am prepared to sit it out for a while longer, and your time frames help a lot. The trouble with "go-ing" for the other vacancies was that I'd already applied before I consulted the Yi. But yes, I'm going to learn to be patient a while longer.

Thanks,
hh

Jesed, Hitchhiker drew 45.1. I see it as having a meaning along these lines: "Only part of the truth is seen, and so things fall apart, but then this triggers a plea for help that relieves all tension and you can proceed without fault."

This seems to me to be overall pretty positive. Why do you see it as indicating a need for caution?

I see "the plea for help" in the actual job (at the light of 55>2) and not as help in the 2 vacancies (at the light of 10>38)
