62 is disharmony, slight excess, trouble. The two yang lines are surrounded by yin lines and suffer for it. Yin is the small and yang the large. The small surround the large. Small things can be accomplished, not the big. Hence, we are warned to use the small, but give up on advancing or trying to expanded. It is two people sitting with their backs to each other. It is a tense situation where disharmony can lead to separation from friends, relatives, lovers. Consider that the yang lines are the public, the yin the private. However, that is not very good as a love that is strictly private will never go to something public like marriage, an institution. In a love affair, this hexagram says that is no immediate success, and that if things go for a long time it is likely that one party will drop out after a change in heart. The second line moving suggests that the failure to make contact with superiors should convey any sense of guilt. The final hexagram is a very auspicious one, which says that eventually you will get what you want; you will woo again. I would think that it will not be with the one you're with now.
Howdy White Owl,
I'm of the opinion that the small pass does not imply a small mountain through which one passes, but that the means across the mountain is small ("the way is narrow").
Line 2, as I see it, is without proper introduction or seal of authority, therefore is content to eat with peasants, or perhaps with a distant bastard cousin of the prince. 62.2 isn't a time for notoriety or rank, but for steadiness and trustworthiness, such as might be found in a grandmother. In fact, she may be the real fortune teller. (I can hear my granny laughing.)
So sorry to 'necromance' an old thread, but this interpretation is perfect. It answers my own question about a family dynamic beautifully. And I just want to say thank you.62 is disharmony, slight excess, trouble. The two yang lines are surrounded by yin lines and suffer for it. Yin is the small and yang the large.
