this one is for a friend. tonight i helped her with the yi for her first time. she asked about a specific job she'd applied for. she's new, and i can't help with this answer because i've never really understood 7. the lines are clear (although they contradict) but 7 is one of my mystery hexs. her answer was 7.2.4 change to 16.

some background: she has applied for this job, and has had a good talk with the hiring director. there was positive interest expressed. but now she has heard nothing, except the acknoledgement of receiving her resume. apparently the director was going to get back to her about something, but hasn't.

the lines read to me as though she should retreat for now, but things will work out. i just don't know what to make of the 7. why would there be an army metaphor in this scenario? it doesn't seem to fit. unless the army refers to an "organized effort" of some kind? still, that image doesn't seem to apply.

also, i guess the way she imagined the question was to ask a general - tell me about me and this job? which also makes it difficult to interpret who is or will be, or should retreat.

I don't think there's a blacklist, Millie! and if there was, dont think you'd be on it! what there is sometimes is a "black-out" on the weekends, presumably when everyone is out painting the town red.

7:2.4.....I think you are right. It sounds good, like maybe things were moving forward, your friend was in line for the job...but someone has, or needs to, take a strategic retreat. maybe a snag of some kind at the organization. maybe they had to stop and reconsider some things. I feel your friend should wait it out for awhile, and then give a call.

michelline, i thought i would tell you that she didn't get the job. they gave her conflicting information about the job requirements and in the end, she didn't have the right educational degree or something. she was not invited for an interview. i seem to remember 16 being about enthusiasm that doesn't last long, and this was true in this case. thanks for your help.

Interesting, Millie, and thank you for reporting back. I guess this is another case of not taking I ching responses as yes or no. In retrospect, I guess it was telling your friend to stop and rethink the whole matter of a job with this firm...(and to keep moving forward with the quest in general!)
