One of my long time pending projects is to create a self help site (first of all in portuguese), oriented for young people, with basically what have been my strategies to deal with becoming better. I feel I have a lot I can say to help young people in their crisis, cause Ive been there and done that (and boy, lost count of the times I banged my head against the wall).
Taming my ego and desires has always been a major concern in my life (but I understand my soul chose this astral karma for a reason), and Ive developed many strategies to get there. Since I also have a need to teach, I thought I might benefit others from my experience.
Anyway, Ive started and stopped this project a couple of times, mostly out of a lack of proper preparation. I want to make a site that focus on the main points of growth, and that is thoroughly linked so you can jump from concept to concept, with no proper start or end to the site.
I was missing some structuration, but recently it striked me (how obvious could that be) that I can use the Yi as a framework for this intention. I would use specific hexagrams to ilustrate different parts of the process, and in this way I would not only introduce people to the Yi (which in any case would be the best self help aid there is) but at the same time discuss strategies to deal with common problems like desire, rejection, fear, anger, etc.

Now, what I would like to ask is that you give me a help in organizing the hexagrams to show the different themes. Some are obvious, for instance from #59 and #42 all lessons concerning the ego are dealt with, #41 shows the control of anger and desire, #31 shows how to make people come to you without forcing or even persuading them to, #25 the need to act espontaneously and without expecting return, #29 and #30 can bring the subject of internal alchemy (in layman terms), #52 for meditation, and so on.

But I would greatly apreciate your personal insights on this topic, for instance what could represent overcoming fear? or showing more compassion (#55?)? I mean, any notion that comes to mind that you think could be well represented by a particular hexagram (or hexagrams). It doesnt have to be completely represented by the hexagram, I just want an excuse to bring the topic, starting from an hexagram image. This way I'll be borrowing some of the Yi's wisdom, which in any case cant be that bad for eventual readers.

So what do you think of this idea? any sugestions anyone?

Hi Pedro - Sounds like a fine idea to me.

29 speaks to fear of danger and gaining control of it through teaching and compassion while remaining true to one's nature.

Pedro - This sounds like a really interesting project. I'd like to comment more on it and will try to get to it this evening after work.

I think you may be onto something here. Writing on Yi, its so difficult to develop a perspective. Regurgitating Wilhelm just doesn't seem worth the effort. Gaining a unique perspective is indeed creative. Your application seems truly unique, and eminantly useful.

Hi again.

Pedro, please expound more on this: "Basically any desire is the same, and can be controlled in the same way."

Is there such a thing, for example, as pure desire, which doesn't need correcting or chastening?

Sounds like a great idea. If I have any thoughts I will add them.
It often strikes me that the people who have trouble with something turn out to be the teachers, much more so than the experts or sages, who are much better. Why do you think my site is so big? Mountains of troubles inside! And also finding lots of solutions.

I was giving it some more thought and starting the rough sketch over the weekend. I hope to come up with some "beta" version soon

Re Candid: "any desire is the same", what I mean is the mechanics of desire are universal, they dont depend on the clinged thing. So it sufices to develop one single strategy, and that will deal with all desires. This strategy starts by an act of will(power), recognises deep inside each desire there is one single thing (fear) and starts observing the desire without grasping it. This is the theory, or most of it, but then there is the practice, which is far less acceptable by the ego... Meditation is of course the single most important thing to practice. It also helps to build inspiring images (working with ideals, like cayce would put it), it also helps to connect (tap in) to the sources, earth, heaven, nature, universal love. One must recognise that co-creation is not only a possibility but a necessity, and being part of the creator's plans is much more gratifying than just pleasuring our senses (once again, I wish I would take my own advice for a change)

But I see your point, its those who need the solutions that go after them, not those who already posess all the answers. I also think there is a degree of responsability in knowing these things. I find so many iluded people (not to say Im not iluded myself), people that would greatly benefit to learn how to go with the flow, people that need something but dont have enough wisdom to distinguish right from wrong, and so many times end up in the hands of not so honest "spiritual teachers", who manipulate their belifs to suit their interests... If I can in my somewhat clumbsy way help clarify some of these persons, it would be worth it.
