Asked about the sexual prospects, for a particular night, with an acquaintance on whom I had a crush.

I thought the reading was overall positive, suggesting that first there would be an obstacle, but that it would be overcome.

However it turned out that this acquaintance was sick. We did in fact hang out for a few hours, and it was fun just chatting, but then this person had to leave and... and is in fact going to be taking a trip that probably means I may not see them again for a long time.

So not such a positive outcome. I'm curious: how do people link the cast to the outcome? Seems hard to see.

So the question is about sex - and my first observation is that nothing in the answer is of a sexual nature (sexual allusions are usually: food, fish, animals like horse, cauldron, rain, or even meat, and servant). I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion? Here you have a reading where you move from Standstill and Separation towards Enthusiasm and Readiness: you met someone and now it seem like there's a lot of possibility to start something new.

Unless ... your applying the 'Amazon Prime' criteria to the relationship, which means that unless it's quick and cheap you don't want anything to do with it. In which case, maybe you need to download a different oracle app onto your phone besides the I Ching.

Not really. The question was as regards the sexual prospects for a particular night, and now this person is leaving for what seems like quite a while.

Yes, I understant. My sense is that sometimes the I Ching gives us information or advice we can use - or need to hear - regardless of what we think we want to know. In this case, as diamanda said, the response doesn't seem to be about instant sex or gratification; but I still think it offers positive advice and possibilities, maybe just not the outcome you were immediately hoping for.

Perhaps something deeper is at play. I guess one way of interpreting this is that the 'sexual prospects' with this person would have been a bad thing, and that I dodged a bullet, so to say... the 'inferior departed.' The standstill ending in 12.6 was the standstill connected to desires connected to this person.

I suppose. It could also be something like: 'despite this person being sick and going away for a while, and the fact that you didn't get laid .... there is still 'harmony' here - something good has arrived, and if you pursue it there could be 'progress and success'.
