Hi,

Recently I have come across a ba gua called Shen Nong Bagua named after its so called inventor Shen Nong. Can any one shed some light more for information sources regarding this bagua sequence.

Strange sequence. Maybe some of the Chinese liked to rearrange the bagua themselves to assert that they had some kind of natural wisdom or insight. Can you tell us more history behind thyis sequence?

Rotate it by 180 degrees clockwise and it matches the South Korean Flag on the diagonals. However the Early Heaven Sequence also does this is you rotate it 45 degrees anticlockwise.

It may be interesting that the sequence preserves these realtionships though.

Hallo Togan,

I saw this sequence for the first time in the book I Ching acupuncture of Dr Chen, and it is an ancient, seldom seen and even more rarely applied Ba gua.

Dr Chen writes further: It's the only gua that's completely balanced, and it contains five elements balance.
Shen Nong Ba gua explains the relationship between ZangFu and six channel pairs.

But your original question about the history I don't know either. Did you also find this sequence in the book of Dr Chen and David Twicken? Or somewhere else.

Greetings from Frank R.

Correct I have found the sequence in their book and so far it is the only place where this sequence is discussed though not in adequate detail.

Thanks

There might be a link with the trigram circle that is connected to the Yuanbaojing 元包經; the Yuanbaojing is supposed to be connected to the Guicang 歸藏, which is attributed to Shennong:

This trigram circle is called the 'Middle Heaven' circle. Image from 易學大辭典, p. 462.
