One of the things I do in my spare time is write and perform stand -up comedy. I wrote a comedy song and was contemplating whether to hire a local film producer and put it on the Internet but I'm afraid that I won't be able to cope with the negative feedback, but I suppose that's the risk you take as a comedian.

After having a look at posts with similar hexagrams I saw that for 30, fuel comes into question. I feel that the fuel is a reference for stamina. Reading the Richard Wilhelm translation talks about cultivating an attitude of compliance and voluntary dependence.

I get a sense that line 1 means that if my song comes from a place of sincerity, that's ok? Line 6, I feel is a reference to people who may be critical.

Hexagram 62, I feel is a warning against pushing the boat out by hiring a producer and stick to doing small things like perhaps doing 5 minute routines at venues.

Hello,

30.1.6 – 62 : I would say yes do the show!
As you know with 30, it's about light here, but fire has to find something to feed on.
Line 1 is positive I find for the beginnings of a creation, but the advice is probably to do things step by step. "No blame".
Line 6 is a line – in my opinion – that shows some kind of capture, like something that could put you forward. "No blame" again. So I think that's pretty encouraging.
However, there are 62 which probably means - like line 1 - that these are your beginnings, that you have to go gradually, but with 62 "perseverance is advantageous"

I think your answer is advice on how to do this rather than whether to do it or not.

You really need to have a good hold(30) of your material, you really need to examine it carefully (62) a bit like getting ready for an exam. This wouldn't be good if you relied on winging it or ad libbing, you need to be very prepared to upload a video.

I think it's saying 'go ahead if you can be scrupulously careful in preparing' and of course that advice goes for any public performance....well many of them anyway. An actor cannot be in any way sloppy when they go onstage. There's no room for error, if there's error not only the actor loses the flow so do all the other actors, it's a very tight thing. An actor has to fully hold on to (30) all their material, their words, understand them fully and very carefully and attentively (62) execute them even in the passionate scenes because on stage they are very small birds travelling across a very big sky, carrying the message to the audience.

Same for you except you are a comedian, but it's the same principle. You need to be really really familiar with your material, like you depend on it (30)(which you likely already are) well you are depending on it, you cling to it (30) carefully (62). So yes do it but put great care and rehearsal into it. In your own head see this as quite an epic voyage like the little bird crossing the big sky, this isn't something you can just casually do.

Thanks Matali and Trojina. It feels like I'm determined to see the negatives to put me off doing it but I like how Trojina, you describe it as an epic voyage. This fits in with line 6 with the marching out and even though it says "not a mistake", it really sounds foreboding.

30.1 might be a suggestion to you to have it be relatable, an honest effort, not “trying too hard” so to speak. Finding that balance of a really honest effort without it looking too contrived or over-polished. A lot of the things that are most viewed on line have a casual essence to them.

30.6 being a really good self-editor! “Kill your darlings.” Be willing to trim it down to the essentials while cultivating the parts you want to keep. If you receive good honest feedback on a draft, from someone you trust, take it. Less is more.

30 > 62 looks like sending a small offering of something you’ve gotten very clear on out into the world. Take it seriously without being overly precious about it and make the effort. It’s one good step

That's some really good advice and reassuring too. I feel like I do have what it takes to make this video a success.
