Hi,

there's an exhibition on soon which I'm considering inviting people to but am not sure I'm that confident about my work/ people busy, but there's a free party so should be fun!

I got 14 - 'possession in great measure' which I think could either be saying share your undertakings ie invite people, or to remain dignified through reserve?
Then changing to 30 the 'clinging' which could either be saying get people involved, or don't depend too much on others... I don't know whether to just go with the flow and whoever comes comes... or actively try to influence more people..

What do you think from the haxagrams?
Thanks a lot :)

Thanks - yeah thought so - hope I'm not going to be too reliant on the i-ching for all decisions!
Read this interpretation of the clinging: 'make a theatre of what you have to say.' which is quite relevant I'd say...
Clever stuff.

You didn't mention which line changes. Looks to me like line 2 is the changing line?

14.2 says, there's a big deal that needs everyone to participate.
30 says, let your light shine.

I agree with willowfox, absolutely you should invite the whole gang!

Hex 14 is a very nice one, the openness in the ruling 5th place makes it the open hub of a powerful set spokes of a wheel ( Lao Tzu poem 11. This is a situation of strong people in an open setting. Line two which expresses and exhausts the structure or where you stand has the Wilhelm judgment of a big wagon for loading, one may undertake something.

Applied to an art opening, which is an occasion where folks in general are invited to see the artwork and enjoy the reception, what reason would you have to not invite people? There are hints in your set up that this is an opening of an exhibit of your art work. Not wanting to invite folks because they might be busy or you lack confidence in your work is a bit much. Folks who are desperately busy or not may not show up, but everyone appreciates being invited. Far more of a worry would be the reaction of those you could have invited and didn't when they get all bent out of shape what was wrong that they were excluded.

More generally, worrying about the details in the commentary tends to more reflect one's insecurities than reflects genuine issues from the Oracle. This oracle could also be called (in my Flux Tome [I Ching] names)

True Gold >> Flaming Light.

Taken in light of the very clear pattern of an Open center of attention (the artist) with lots of strong folks enjoying being around--the oracle could also be interpreted as: Invite twice as many as you have on your current list, and figure out what your big wagon is being loaded up about--like have a sales pitch or request for positive feedback or something useful to be asking the folks coming to see the art and incidentally be part of a party honoring the artist...And then after setting the path for you big wagon of an art opening, be the modest, open hub--center of attention giving all your guests the opportunity to participate in the discussion and activity and such--perhaps challenging each other to buy several of the works to hang in their galleries and museums.
