In tandem with my other readings, I am still concerned about my geographical location and how it fits into my destiny.

I asked the Yi two questions. First: show me a picture if I move back to my home country in 2009.

Answer: Hex. 52.5.6 and Hex. 7 the Army.

Then I asked: show me a picture if I remain in this country in 2009.
I got Hex 59 unchanging.

My questions are: which is these is "better"? Hex 59 suggests stagnation which is *negative*. And hex 7, the army, suggests is i move I will need helpers (which I am not sure I will have, truth be told, at least not in the emotional support way i would need).

I also found this interpretation for 52 from Karcher:

"This is correcting the situation. You are involved in a great project. Work hard to disperse the obstacles to achievement. Don't think about anything else now. This is not a mistake. In the end this will correct your entire situation. The centre is changing. Be part of it. Direction: There is something immature in the situation that needs to be nourished. Take things in. Be open and provide what is needed."

Which would imply that a move back would be good (or better) than staying put here.

But this (also about 52) suggests the opposite: Leaving behind the habits of self, the pinching shoes, the old ways or the passions which do not serve to further ? in favor of freedom from self obsession.

Any insights? (this is the last thread i will open for many months, I promise!) :blush:

Hi Elizabeth

Just in case the comment could be useful

This questions implies a serious decision-making process. So, I wouldn't dare to interpret your answers. Instead, I dare to suggest you to follow a diferent aproach.

here is a link to Luis' forum; where I have posted an article about the use of Yijing to decision-making process. I hope this can be more helpful for you.

I transcript the final

With where we've been up here, we propose that if a person wishes to use the Yijing to make decisions, should follow these steps, to be understood as guides and not as rigid rules or orthodoxies:

a) Stop to consider whether the issue is important, and if so, whether it is not evident a course of action;
b) Start by discern from its own reason a course of action that could be suitable to its concrete reality, as hypotheses to verify. Taking a decision by itself; this will be subject to validation with other viewpoints.
c) Seek advice from people of experience and confidence in the subject; contrast if its initial decision is confirmed, nuanced or opposed to the views of those who are not directly involved;
e) Refer its own opinion to the Judgment that can give the answer of Yijing on the fortune or misfortune that may arise from the further course of action previously considered
f) Confront the agreements and disagreements between the opinion of itself, the others and the response of the Yijing. Discerning whether there is clarity on implementing or reject the decision taken previously.

Hi Jesed,
Yes, that is helpful. As I understand it, first decide if the issue is important (yes it is). Then make a decision about the question on your own... and THEN ask the Yi about that decision. Sort of like imagining you decided course of action A, and then ask the Yi about Course of Action A.

Do I understand it correctly? The point is to have a clear decision in mind before you ask?

oops! sorry! Good eyes Dobro. I accidentally flipped the two hexes when I wrote them in this thread. The correct version is:

1. Show me a picture if I move back to my home country in 2009
Hexagram 59.5.6 and Hex 7 for that answer.

2. Show me a picture if I stay put in 2009.
Hexagram 52. Twice. Unchanging.

Yes, you got it.
The article suggests the consultation to Yijing as the final step (not the first step) in the process of making a decision. And there are two main reasons:
a) Because this is the most reasonable aproach, where we take our own responsability;
b) Because, based in the Canon of History, that was the way this tool was used in the original culture that created it.

I hope this would be clearest after reading the whole article

Best wishes

Thanks Jesed. Yes, it made more sense after I read the full article. I am no closer to making a decision however and it seems the Yi would show me the results of either staying or going, but not necessarily show me which is best for me (which is what I had hoped it would do!) This is better though, as it puts the burden back on me to figure it out. (Presuming that is a good thing). In any case I am glad to better understand what and how the Yi is meant to be used. This was very informative. Thanks :)
