Dear all, can some-one offer their ideas please. I have a red mark on my face which first increased and now is decreasing. I am strongly reluctant to take prescribed medications and have refused 90% of any offered for nigh-on 20 years. I have now been prescribed a high systemic dose of antibiotics which surprised me. The redness commenced on a brown (sun-damaged) area and spread to another brown patch, it is now reducing. I would prefer to use vitamins and supplements as treatment so asked 'Y' "Should I take the antibiotics" the answer - Hex 12. 4, 5, > Hex 23. I am taking this as a "No" What do you experienced people think? I have little faith in medications, especially as antibiotics kill all our beneficial germs as well as the bad ones. Would appreciate all comments, thank you.

I don't see anything in this response that would definitely say yes or no to taking antibiotics. It does describe the forces of heaven and earth moving in different directions, which I often think of as leaving a void - perhaps a place where an infection could take hold? To have strong opinions about healing and western medicine is all well and good, but the point here I think is to get healed - which might mean setting aside our own opinions, however good or happy they make us feel. Line 12.5 is suggesting that nothing is final here - even if you were to take antibiotics, that this too will pass - like the droppings of a bird after eating mulberry fruit!

My personal take is that you can always build back up your good (and very necessary) 'bugs' but it's a lot harder to treat an infection if it gets out of hand - but that's just me sayin' - not necessarily the Yi's advice.

Best, David.

Thank you David, an interesting response. One of the reasons I am reluctant to take the antibiotics is that I have been ill, off and on for about 3 years, my circulation has been halved by pacemaker not working properly - only just been reprogrammed. I believe that my body now needs to recuperate and I can't see that a high dose of antibiotics for a localised skin infection is going to be of great advantage, and I am not eating well. I would add that my doctor is excellent and knows that I don't take the usual medications but I was too astonished to argue. Your take on line 12.5 is interesting - could that possibly mean that the infection will pass? Perhaps there are better questions I should ask? Thank you again for your kind response. I am also going to try a 'Castor Oil pack', something I had forgotten about and which has before cured a bad tooth abcess. Many thanks, meigga

Thanks Meigga. It seems there's a lot more going on with your health than I'm able to address, but I still hope what I shared is helpful, and if I have a chance, I'll take another look. In the mean time, just a reminder that the Yi's advice is only that, advice, which is filtered through imperfect people (like me) and which I think should not replace your doctor's advice.

Best, David.

Maybe ask, "What is the result if I don't take the medication?"

you wrote the red spot is getting smaller, so maybe it is on the way out. We really cannot rely too heavily on the I Ching when it comes to medical matters. My experience has shown that to be true.

Hello Rosada, thank you for your input and suggestion. I asked 'Y' "what will happen if I don't take the Antibiotics"? and was answered with Hex 12 again with changing lines 1,3,6, > 49. I also asked the same question on a different website and received
Hex 36.5 > 63. Strangely I was wondering if I was being tested to see whether I would take the medication or not. This doctor knows very well that I don't take prescribed medications and we are on friendly terms so I would be reluctant to admit to not taking them.

Update and thanks to everyone. I decided to take the antibiotics as well as my own vitamins etc.. in my own defence however, the people who are supposed to be looking after us knew 3/4 years ago that my pacemaker was not working as well as it should and I was told it was nothing to worry about. At my last check I told them that I was not feeling it 'Kicking in' they assured me that I had 'just got used to it' - after nearly 20 years "I've just got used to it" !!! Anyway I am feeling better so thank you all for your input.

Hi Meigga,

Reading your original post where you mention that this has to do with a brown sun-damaged area, and then I see you have hexagram 23 in the background - I'm wondering if you should see a specialist, a dermatologist? Would you be willing to have a dermatologist look at it?

If what is needed is for something to be removed (hexagram 23) - or if something has to be removed along with antibiotics - those are different things. Antibiotics will clear up an infection, but they won't have any effect on something that should be removed.

I had an experience with this in the past. I went to my general practitioner for a regular checkup, and he noticed a little spot near my nose that he thought should be looked at by a dermatologist. The dermatologist said that particular spot was fine (just some enlarged capillaries), but he found another spot, a small scaly, rough patch, that he removed by freezing it off. He said it was important to remove it.

So there are two points here: (1) your regular doctor isn't a dermatologist, and he or she might not identify things properly (mine didn't - he was worried about a spot that wasn't a problem, but missed a spot that was a problem), (2) you might need something removed in addition to the antibiotics.

Thank you Liselle, You are quite right, I saw my doctor today and he is referring me to a Dermatologist, has also referred me to a Cardiologist with an appointment 6th June for a general checkup of heart and pacemaker. These doctors are recently new to this practise and the chief doctor - they call him 'the boss' is very particular and caring; the last lot couldn't have cared less for their patients. I was sent a letter informing me that one doctor was my 'Named' doctor but when I asked to see her was told "She doesn't see patients" so she was sitting upstairs in her flat raking in a salary for doing nothing. Nice work if you can get it!! These ones are lovely though, we are very lucky. Thank you all once again. meigga
