I always get such good insight when I post here. I still feel like such a beginner, but once I get to know Yi better, I hope I can help others here with interpretations as I have been helped.

Tonight I asked Yi a couple of questions about my spiritual path and thought I could benefit from others' perspectives. These readings are not particularly confusing; I just want to see if there's anything here I may have missed or not thought of.

What are the obstacles currently holding me back from progress? 56.4 to 52

What can I do now to address these obstacles and advance? 53.5 to 52

The repetition of 52 feels significant. Meditation is my main form of practice.

56.4 seems to describe my situation well--outwardly, all is well. Inwardly, there is discontent. Is this discontent itself the obstacle, or its symptom? This line talks about the awareness of having not fully achieved one's goals and the precariousness of that state of incompletion. I do feel a bit stuck in one place when I would like to be advancing, moving on. The image of a traveller is also significant, as I often use the imagery of the "spiritual journey."

53.5 seems to, however, imply that progress will come in due time, as part of a natural process. But it may be a (relatively) long time coming, despite the implied inevitability.

Again, 52 both times seems to be saying keep meditating, keep stilling your mind.

Thank you in advance.

It is saying you are simply 'in the wrong place' somehow.
that doesn't suit you and your happiness.
The discontent is a symptom, not a cause.
The discontent is how to know you are 'in the wrong place',
Job, organization, relationship, what have you, that isn't fullfilling to you. Something that doesn't feel like 'home', or meet your needs.

What is that thing?

56.4 >> 52 Your reading reminds me of a documentary about George Harrison called "Living in the material world". Harrison could've been represented by 56.4 > 52, someone who had all the material world can offer but whose heart was not glad (at that time). What I'm trying to say, in answer to your question, is it seems that your obstacles to spiritual progress are all around, the material world that surrounds us. Not necessarily money, but all the structures that we are used to living by. The question seems how to reconcile material and spiritual, as the traveller (56) goes through his/her journey.

As for 53.5 I don't see what you can do to advance, as it seems a long, slow process of growth, which needs it's own time to process information/experience to produce the transformation. But, I agree with you, meditation appears to be an important part of the process.:bows:

Well, you may be someone who is naturally discontented, as so many of us are. There is an inner restlessness. Even after being given everything, we are not happy. I agree with those above who advised you to continue your meditation practice, because your reading of 53.5 says that one day you will attain the peace you are seeking. You can rely on that!

I see 56.4 - 52 as describing your frustration that all the comforts of the material world do not satisfy you as you are longing for something more - something more "spiritual" . I see 52 as the challenge to still this longing for something other than what is, that it is this longing itself that is what's stopping you from experiencing greater awareness of the spiritual in the here and now.

I see 53.5 - 52 as encouragement to get more actively involved in this physical world. Make friends, get married, raise kids - they all are mundane things we do in life but they are the doorway to greater consciousness. Perhaps 52 here means that by doing these things your longing for spirit becomes satisfied and stilled.

Seems like 52 is saying you can either be cutting yourself off from the spiritual experience as when you think life is too mundane, slow or separate from spirit, or you can get totally involved in the worldly experience and then 52 means your spiritual experience is supported by your calm still state of mind.

Not obstacles as such and my view is it's probably better not to think in terms of obstacles when thinking of 'spiritual progress', if you think about it there can be none. We have no idea where we are in terms of 'spiritual progress' for one thing. There is no way to know if the man that empties the rubbish bins is less spiritually advanced than someone who thinks he is by gazing at his navel half his life. So I don't think this is an obstacle it's more of a dissatisfaction you now experience but actually what if that were okay ? what if experiencing not being home yet (the traveller is not home) is exactly the right experience for you to be having at this time ? Your other answers confirm this to me and I think you had the correct sense of the meaning in your first post.

What can I do now to address these obstacles and advance? 53.5 to 52

Nothing. You called them 'obstacles' and so now you feel you must address them. But there aren't obstacles there is simply 'how it is' for you right now. This answer shows there is nothing you need to 'do' as if will all surely happen in it's right time

56.4 seems to describe my situation well--outwardly, all is well. Inwardly, there is discontent. Is this discontent itself the obstacle, or its symptom? I think that's okay, I mean the discontent isn't actually a sign you have an obstacle on your spiritual path.

53.5 seems to, however, imply that progress will come in due time, as part of a natural process. But it may be a (relatively) long time coming, despite the implied inevitability.

Yes exactly what I was thinking. If there was something you could do to escape this feeling of not being quite in the right place then you wouldn't have cast 53.5 which you cannot hurry along by anything you do. It will all come in it's own time.

Again, 52 both times seems to be saying keep meditating, keep stilling your mind.

Thank you in advance.

Yes but also don't project too far ahead, be content even whilst you are discontent. This is not to say you need not seek out improvement in your life where you can, but settle down a bit. The question Hilary writes for 52 in her book is

'What if there were nothing you had to do now ?
What if there were nowhere else you had to be ?
Where is your inner point of balance ?

What if, despite that inner sense of not being 'home', not being where you feel you ought to be, there was in fact no better place for you at this moment ? It's often a very relaxing thought.

I think Yi is more enabling you to come to terms with how it is for you right now than addressing 'obstacles'.
