hello one and all,

I consulted with regard to my spiritual progress

i got hexagram 47 which i understand : i have been toiling without much progress for a long time and have bever been able to satisfy my inner aspirations or break away ..stop practising it..
the moving lines are interesting and i wish to know more about

Six at the beginning means:
One sits oppressed under a bare tree
And strays into a gloomy valley.
For three years one sees nothing.

is this a message that i would be having difficulty with my spiritual progress for next 3 years ?

Nine in the fourth place means:
He comes very quietly, oppressed in a golden carriage.
Humiliation, but the end is reached.

does this line say that i might not be sucessful in my own ways but the "supreme bliss" will be achieved despite my failures ?

i have prayed with tears about my lack of progress and it seems providence seems to say that it will provide me with bliss despite my efforts

......the last piece in the puzzle : what does the relating hexagram 60 mean ?

thank you all

sincerely yurs

You cry about your lack of spiritual progress ? I cry about alot of things but i never thought to cry about about that...we're all different i guess :D For one thing I don't think we know a huge deal about our spiritual progress in any objective sense. The very idea of 'progress' in regard to spiritual development...well who are we to say. if we are looking back at ourselves to measure how 'spiritual' we are aren't we just on another deluded ago trip ?

Hmm anyway perhaps you are meaning this differently to I'm understanding it...so with regard to the reading I think you are making things very hard for yourself, taking this all too heavy (47.1) your attitude to this currently holds you back (47.4) and I'd think whats getting you down is the current restrictions you place upon yourself (60).

I'd take the reading as quite a strong message to loosen off these self imposed reins a little, they make you depressed. You can't force spiritual progress much less judge it when it does or doesn't happen. Not sure if this means you should stop practising in your chosen path but I do think it may mean reassess your approach to it.

Later thought about 47.4 I think it can mean placing too much emphasis on the form of things, procedures, ceremonies and so on. Too much emphasis on form makes everything heavy and slow where it needn't be, its the essence thats important not the form. Could it be in your practise you have gotten too attached to form ?

Hi Vicky,

A dried up lake (47) isn't the best place to look for spiritual bliss. Any spiritual effect you may find there will be limited to being somber and tearful, rather than joyous or enlightening.

It could be that you identify spirituality with piety and lowliness, and if so, that is exactly what you find. You might try identifying what you really mean exactly by words such as salvation or spiritual progress, as they mean different things to different people and groups. And as you identify them, begin to personally identify with them. That should get you out from under that oppressive tree.

A guru?

Yes, Vicky, in line with what Meng posted, your spiritual practice is quite depressing and exhausting, rather than bringing delight and joy into your life.

For me the first line moving in H47 means you're stuck in some place where nobody comes? Is it not true that you are angry or depressed because of that? However, you are in communication with somebody.

Here are some possibilities for line 4 moving, and only you will know if one of them rings true for you:

(1) You have enough money (or enough spiritual progress), but nevertheless have feelings of being poor and not having enough.

(2) You are relying too much on someone of higher station than yourself. Could this 'golden carriage' line mean you are relying too much on a guru or teacher? In the end you'll get free of the oppression signified by this line.

About H60 as the relating hex, it could also mean having enough self-control to set healthy limits. For example: If you now spend four hours a day meditating and doing your spiritual practices, realize that your habits have turned into a kind of prison from which you need to free yourself. Plan to cut that time in half and then in half again.

Peace of mind is not a commodity

[/INDENT]For three years one sees nothing.

is this a message that i would be having difficulty with my spiritual progress for next 3 years ?

i have prayed with tears about my lack of progress and it seems providence seems to say that it will provide me with bliss despite my efforts

Three years just means a very long time. It could be longer or shorter than three years on the calendar.

Bliss does not come about through effort. The more you strive, the more peace of mind will elude you . . .

Providence does not "provide" bliss, like wages being paid out of a big bag of rewards and prizes. I am wondering, if you will say: What church are you following?

You seem to be in The Church of Heavenly Exchange. That is, in exchange for so much devotion and spiritual striving, you are expecting to receive your pay-off of a certain amount of bliss, which is surely due to you by now . . . in fact, long overdue.

Peace of mind is not a commodity, although there will always be plenty of people around who will attempt to profit by selling it to us, Vicky.
